LACUNA COIL release new single ‘I Wish You Were Dead’
As the band prepares to release their brand new studio album Sleepless Empire, Italian metal titans LACUNA COIL have released the ultimate single ‘I Wish You Were Dead’ alongside a stunning music video.
‘I Wish You Were Dead’ is about the emotional turmoil and struggle that accompanies toxic relationships. The song’s video, which premieres this evening at 8pm GMT, takes the track’s heavy theme and spins it into a romantic Goth tale just in time for Valentine’s Day. Filmed by Martina L McLean in a church in Capranica, a small town north of Rome, it marks a first in the history of LACUNA COIL: the band performing a choreography!

On the new single, the band shares:
“We all have this person we wish never existed, right? We all felt the need to erase the same person from our thoughts, someone who hurt us that it’s still in our mind. We wanted to write heavier lyrics on a happier musical canvas. Also we are a little tired of being politically correct at all costs…”
Sleepless Empire marks the tenth studio album of LACUNA COIL, released 14th February via Century Media Records. It is the first long play release after their remake album Comalies XX, which came out 2022. The new album comprises eleven new tracks; and each one is a richly textured soundtrack to a specific time and a place. With Sleepless Empire, that place is dark, cinematic, and unmistakably true to the unique characteristics that have given LACUNA COIL such a celebrated entry in the annals of heavy music. “Sleepless Empire captures, through our eyes, the chaos of a generation trapped in a digital world that never stops, where social media consumes identity and every day pushes us one step closer to becoming soulless zombies. We find ourselves in between, having witnessed a full analogic world and the modern one, confronting the evolution and searching for a true meaning of it all. Throughout every song, the journey is an undercurrent of rebellion, a desperate cry to reclaim oneself in an era that seems to have lost its sense of time and reality.”

ABOUT LACUNA COIL
LACUNA COIL, which translates to “empty spiral”, is an Italian gothic metal band formed in Milan in 1994. The band is renowned for their distinctive blend of heavy metal, gothic rock, and symphonic elements, characterised by dual vocal harmonies between co-lead vocalists Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro. The band gained international recognition with their third album, Comalies, released in 2002, which featured hit singles like ‘Heaven’s a Lie’ and ‘Swamped’. The Veer Union have launched into 2025 with the release of the their new album, “Welcome To Dystopia”. The 8 song, apocalyptic themed album by the Vancouver BC, Canada based group includes previously released hit singles “Empirical”; “Is This How It Ends”, and the title track, which included a guest appearance by rising rockers Silent Theory.
The focus track for the LP is “No Excuse” which excoriates leaders around the world for leaving the poor, middle class and working class behind in an evolving world – in order to help the wealthy grow their net worth to obscene levels. An ominous spoken word intro explodes into driving guitars, buoyed by a hypnotic piano and synth melody line that are propelled forward by thunderous drums with a chugging, relentless rhythm.
