LEPROUS – announce new album “Malina” & European tour dates with special guests Agent Fresco

Norway’s Leprous are pleased to announce their much-anticipated new fifth studio album ‘Malina’ for release on the 25th August 2017, the follow-up to their acclaimed record ‘The Congregation’. To coincide with this, they have also announced an extensive European tour with special guests, Iceland’s Agent Fresco, plus Australia’s AlithiA & fellow Norwegian’s Astrosaur.

Following a hugely successful EU tour as support to label-mates Devin Townsend Project, the band started the recording of the follow-up to 2015’s ‘The Congregation’. Front-man and keyboard player Einar Solberg comments: “This album is the perfect example of how you can start with a vision and end up with a result that has nothing to do with the original idea. The writing of the album started out with the idea to perfect the sound and working method we began with on ‘The Congregation’. While the writing process was actually pretty similar (30 sketches, elimination process etc etc) we gradually started noticing stuff with the sound and the songwriting on the previous album that we wanted to sound different. Gradually we realized what needed to be done. This album needs to sound more alive, more organic and more dynamic.” The band entered the studio with David Castillo at Ghostward in Sweden, while mixing duties were once again taken care of by Jens Bogren. “David immediately understood where we wanted to go. We spent probably 4 times as many days in the studio as with any other recording we’ve done, for we’ve come to learn that if you want to sound unique that is primarily done during recordings, not the mix. We wanted it to sound like it sounded. We did not want to ‘digitalize’ the sound.”

With ‘Malina’, Leprous have made every effort to try new ways of working, and push the boundaries of their sound in ways they had not originally set out to do. “We feel with ‘Malina’ that we’ve managed to achieve a natural sounding organic album with great songs that still sounds modern. Organic doesn’t necessarily equal ‘retro’. While we still very much sound like Leprous, I believe that with this album we more accurately define as a rock band than a metal band. We’re insanely proud of this album, and can’t wait to share it with you all.” This feeling is reflected in the stunning cover artwork too, which you can see above. Einar continues: “We wanted to try something new this time, and work with a new artist. Some good musician friends of ours recommended Corey Meyers. I checked him out, and damn he’s good. This is the first time we’ve ever received the perfect cover on the first attempt. It represents the album perfectly and looks pretty amazing!”

As mentioned, Leprous will head out on an extensive European tour this Autumn with Agent Fresco as special guests, including an appearance at the UK’s Damnation Festival. The band comments:
“We’re super excited to announce that we’re heading out on a European tour this fall to celebrate the new album. And guess what!? We’re bringing one of our generations greatest with us: the amazing Agent Fresco! In addition to that we’re bringing AlithiA from Australia, as well as Astrosaur – the band featuring our great step-in guitarist from the Devin tour. This is a dream tour for us, to be able to perform in all of these great places for our fantastic fans, listen to amazing music every night and also travel Europe with really good friends!”

SVARTSYN reveal second new single

Swedish black metallers SVARTSYN are streaming a new song taken from their upcoming album “In Death”, due out on June 9th via Agonia Records. Listen to “Black Thrones Of Death” here:

“Black Thrones Of Death” is the second revealed single. The first one, “Seven Headed Snake”, can be listened to here: https://youtu.be/2bn_RFA-yHI

SVARTSYN plays dark, grim and misanthropic black metal. The music operates from mid-paced to fast and sinister tempos, featuring a dynamic melodic range injected into an overall feeling of obscurity and brutality. Originally formed as Chalice in 1991, and renamed to SVARTSYN three years later, the band can be considered as a one man project led by Ornias. He sang and played all instruments on “In Death”, except for drums. Along its career, the band put out a number of albums celebrated in the underground black metal scene, including the 1998 debut “The True Legend”.

Ornias commented: “The new record completes and combaines the Black Testament and the Nightmarish Sleep albums. My revelations. My deathwork”.

“In Death” was recorded in the Belgian Mortsella Studio in March and December 2016, and in January 2017. Mixing and mastering took place at Clintworks Studio (Amon Amarth, 3 Inches Of Blood, Misery Index). The cover artwork was created by Chadwick St John (Arckanum, Horna, The Piper graphic novel).

Carach Angren release viciously animated video of third new track

CARACH ANGREN are premiering the third amazing track of their forthcoming new album, ‘Dance and Laugh amongst the Rotten’ in the shape of a stunning animated video with lyrics, which has been created by renowned Romanian artist, Costin Chioreanu.

The Dutch masters of horror metal will release ‘Dance and Laugh amongst the Rotten’ on  June 16th.

The animated video for the song “Blood Queen” is now streaming via the Season of Mist video channel and may be freely spread at the link below.

CARACH ANGREN comment: “We are extremely proud to present you the horror that is ‘Blood Queen’. This cruel and sad tale surrounding her fate that we have brought alive in an intense musical is now wrenching your gut through the incredibly imagery created by Costin Chioreanu. He has given our dark vision a more than fitting frame. This clip is more than just another ‘lyric video’ but an artistic merger of song and image. We are proud that our work of passion also led to Costin really outdoing himself once again.”

River Black stream second new song of debut album

RIVER BLACK are revealing the second heavy track taken from their self-titled debut album. ‘River Black’ has been scheduled for release on July 7th.

The American modern metal pioneers in the wake of BURNED BY THE SUN are now premering the song “#Victim”

river black band.jpg

Drummer Dave Witte comments on behalf of RIVER BLACK: “This one came together very quickly at the end of the writing sessions for our debut album. Actually, the whole beginning has been sitting around since 2008. We never had anything that made sense to go along with it and it just happened this time. Lyrically, it’s a kick in the pants to the unmotivated and a rallying cry for the malcontent.”

Vocalist Mike Olender adds: “This song was inspired by some individuals, who latch on to the misfortune of others and try to claim it as their own; vicarious victims, who are so addicted to drama and self-loathing that they gravitate towards any tragedy and make it a part of their identity, hence the hashtag. This first-world problem is the height of privilege and it speaks to a larger problem of intentional victimhood in American society, where too often we pre-empt problems that are not ours with solutions we don’t need; solutions which are rooted in a corrupt health care system more committed to profitable treatments than good health or personal growth.”

RIVER BLACK have previously revealed artwork and track-list of their debut full-length, which can both be viewed below.
