Review: The Dead Soul Communion – MMXVII

REVIEW: The Dead Soul Communion – MMXVII by Carina Lawrence / Dark Art Conspiracy

The Dead Soul Communion is a brand new project from Ex Devilment founder Daniel Finch. The band also features members of Steve Harris British Lion and ex Dearly Beheaded drummer Simon Dawson, along with members of Synaptik, Heathen Deity and more, so there is a lot of experience and influences running through the band. The album lyrically deals with many themes such as internal struggles, love, relationships, suicide, self-destruction, acts of violence, war and mental illness.

Opening song ‘My Beautiful Mistake’ gets things off to a powerful melodic start with fierce outbursts and chug heavy guitars. This is a hefty, varied and unpredictable track especially towards the end, leaving us eager to hear more…

‘The Communion’ is much darker with aggressive growls and stomping fast instruments. It still maintains its melodic currents aided through the use of the clean vocals. The synths add more depth and ambience and work well with the thrash riffs, giving it a dramatic and suspenseful sound.

Continuing on the theatrical atmosphere is the intro of ‘Last Grains Of Sand’ which goes on to hit hard in this non-stop thumping metal offering which is all consuming through the effects and vocal wails.

Prosthetic Records Signs Atmospheric Black Metal Band ASHBRINGER

unnamed (4).jpg
Prosthetic Records are excited to welcome Minnesota’s ASHBRINGER to the family. Specializing in equal parts brutality, melody and the ethereal, their black metal metamorphosis began in 2013 as the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Nick Stanger. Several releases and several tours later, they have perfected their craft, which will be unveiled in early 2018.
Stanger comments on the signing: “We are thrilled to announce that we have signed with Prosthetic Records, and I couldn’t be more excited for the future of the band. For as long as I’ve been interested in music, I’ve always had a strange obsession with reading the credits and liner notes to every album I purchase in detail, and Prosthetic is a name that I grew up with. They released many albums that were absolutely integral to my development both as a listener and as a musician, and it’s so exciting to now become a part of that.”

The band is heading out for a short North American run, where they will be playing songs from their previous two full lengths, 2015’s Vacant and last year’s Yugen, which was described by No Clean Signing as, “both storming and hypnotic, ferocious and beautiful, with a mix of barbaric and clean vocals. Yugen also appeared on a few “Best of 2016” lists with MetalSucks saying, “This is art, molded from thin air with discerningly patient hands practicing nothing less than the absolute mastery of a craft. With so goddamn much to appreciate about this album, you better as fuck stop reading and start listening!”

08/24 – London, ON – The Richmond Tavern

CRADLE OF FILTH Announce – You Will Know The Lion By His Claw (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO)

According to  Cradle Of Filth’s Facebook :

UK’s legendary extreme metal icons CRADLE OF FILTH have released the second single off of their eagerly awaited 12th album, ‘Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness Of Decay’.
Watch the official lyric video for ‘You Will Know The Lion By His Claw’ here: https://youtu.be/s8r6DoD83ok

Commented singer Dani Filth: “This track is one of my favourite songs from the new ‘Cryptoriana’ album -aside from ‘Achingly Beautiful’, ‘Death And The Maiden’ and the title track- due to its very unique flavour and its vehement brutality. The culminative strike is especially very ‘Dusk… and Her Embrace’ era Black Metal…
Inspired by the works of H. Rider Haggard, a Victorian author who schooled in my home town of Ipswich, this song uses the railroad annexation of the Transvaal in Africa during the 19th century to paint a vision of the greedy machinations of man coming up against a furious, displaced natural foe, thus posing an allegory for the downtrodden, revolting.
I also have the latin of this expression tattooed on my arm (due to being the usual supercilious Leo!).
The quote was made famous having been said in 1697 by Johann Bernoulli about Isaac Newton’s anonymously submitted solution to Bernoulli’s challenge regarding the Brachistochrone curve.
So… Enjoy. Indulge. Desire. Darken.”

Furthermore the band also announced to release the dates for the upcoming European tour in support of ‘Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness Of Decay’ on Thursday, August 17.
