Season of Mist sign IMPUREZA

Season of Mist are proud to announce the signing of IMPUREZA. Not counting the compilation of earlier material, the Spanish flamenco death metal extremists will release their sophomore album via Season of Mist.

Regarding their signing, IMPUREZA comment: “We are extremely proud to announce that we have inked a deal with Season of Mist, one of the most influential metal labels ever. This is a great chance to become part of the Season of Mist family and their prestigious roster including such favourite of ours as MAYHEM, ABBATH, ROTTING CHRIST, BENIGHTED, INQUISITION, SHINING to name but a few. We greatly thank them for the trust that they are giving our project. This is a huge opportunity for us to introduce our cultural roots and musical concept in the beautiful language of ‘Don Quixote’ author Cervantes to the world!”

Founded in 2004, IMPUREZA are playing Hispanic Extreme Metal. For more than ten years, the French-Spanish band has been pioneering their unique style, which combines Iberian soundscapes with a solid base of death metal.

The traditional part of their musical heritage is expressed through means such as the use of acoustic folk guitars, flamenco rhythm patterns, and exclusively Spanish lyrics. This concept derives from the interest of founding member Lionel Cano Muñoz and his “compañero” Esteban Martín, who are both of Spanish origin and draw inspiration from their identity.

Esteban Martín adds his multiple vocal facets that range from death metal growling to clean singing inspired by the sadly late gitano-legend CAMARÓN DE LA ISLA among others. In a similar way, Lionel Cano Muñoz shifts between the aggression and power of his 7-string electric guitar and the intricacy of the Spanish flamenco guitar. This is backed up by Florian Saillard, who complements the electric string section with his 6-string bass and the flamenco parts with an acoustic bass guitar. Even more string power is added live by rhythm guitarist Olivier Hanoulle. Last but not least, drummer Guilhem Auge is perfectly complementing the band with his unique rhythm patterns and Hispanic groove.

IMPUREZA have been amused to find the nickname “French Nile” being attached to them at times for combining the ferocity of death metal with “exotic” sounds. The band’s influences range from BEHEMOTH and MORBID ANGEL to PACO DE LUCÍA.

The Spanish-French outfit quickly gained a reputation of an excellent live act, which was well earned by capturing audiences across Europe alongside acts such as GOJIRA, SUFFOCATION, CATTLE DECAPITATION, and BENIGHTED as well as performing at prestigious festivals such as Hellfest, Motocultor, and Wacken Open Air – the latter as winners of the W.O.A Metal Battle France.

IMPUREZA first created a buzz within the underground metal scene by the release of three demos ‘Y Correra Tu Sangre’ (2005), ‘Ruina De La Penitencia’  (2006), and ‘En El Desierto De La Creencia’ (2007) – all of which were compiled under the heading ‘Inquisition Demos’ in 2007 – as well as two split-contributions on the ‘Tworzenia, Resurrezione, Démence’ (2006) and ‘Reincremation’ (2007) samplers. These prepared the ground for the band’s acclaimed debut full-length ‘La Iglesia Del Odio’ (2010), which considerably widened their international following – a trend that continued with the following 2013 EP ‘El Nuevo Reino De Los Ahorcados / Leyenda Negra’.

Taking their time to refine their self-developed, unique style and to come to terms with several changes in the line-up, IMPUREZA are now preparing to spearhead Hispanic Extreme Metal worldwide. The Spanish metal conquistadors will release their sophomore album via Season of Mist. Watch this space for more news soon.

Line-up
Esteban Martín: all vocals
Lionel Cano Muñoz: rhythm, lead, and Spanish guitars

Sólstafir enter the international album charts with ‘Berdreyminn’

SÓLSTAFIR have entered the album charts in several countries in the first week after ‘Berdreyminn’ was released worldwide on May 26th. It is actually hard to overstate the massive achievement of a band coming from a volcanic island close to the arctic circle in the North Atlantic midway between Europe and America that sings in Icelandic and that has evolved a highly original style of music very much their own. Excluding the multiple high scores in digital charts across all platforms worldwide and focusing on physical charts, these are the album’s current results (with expected top positions from their native Iceland and other countries still missing):

Finland #20 National album charts

France #121 National charts
France #2 Metal charts

Germany #30 National album charts

Sweden #8 Vinyl charts
Sweden #18 Hardrock charts

Switzerland #42 National charts

UK #39 – Top 100 independent album chart
UK #24 – Top 40 rock/metal album chart

Season of Mist congratulates SÓLSTAFIR for their well-deserved success!

Important note: Please do not use archive pictures of SÓLSTAFIR! The line-up has changed since their last album. Please do only publish new band pictures provided at the link below. New material is now available.

Therefore, we have worked with excellent visual artists like Bowen Staines and Vesa Ranta on previous clips. We are privileged to have been able to enlist the team of Nico Poalillo and Peter Beste to create the imagery for ‘Silfur-Refur’. They have directed and produced a video that beautifully illustrates our song – at least in our minds. We are giving Nico and Peter our heartfelt thanks for their amazing contribution to our musical vision. The video’s meaning is a puzzle, which we are leaving for you to solve as we don’t want to spoil your imagination spinning stories of its own. We sincerely hope that you enjoy ‘Silfur-Refur’ as much as we do.”

River Black stream second new song of debut album

RIVER BLACK are revealing the second heavy track taken from their self-titled debut album. ‘River Black’ has been scheduled for release on July 7th.

The American modern metal pioneers in the wake of BURNED BY THE SUN are now premering the song “#Victim”

river black band.jpg

Drummer Dave Witte comments on behalf of RIVER BLACK: “This one came together very quickly at the end of the writing sessions for our debut album. Actually, the whole beginning has been sitting around since 2008. We never had anything that made sense to go along with it and it just happened this time. Lyrically, it’s a kick in the pants to the unmotivated and a rallying cry for the malcontent.”

Vocalist Mike Olender adds: “This song was inspired by some individuals, who latch on to the misfortune of others and try to claim it as their own; vicarious victims, who are so addicted to drama and self-loathing that they gravitate towards any tragedy and make it a part of their identity, hence the hashtag. This first-world problem is the height of privilege and it speaks to a larger problem of intentional victimhood in American society, where too often we pre-empt problems that are not ours with solutions we don’t need; solutions which are rooted in a corrupt health care system more committed to profitable treatments than good health or personal growth.”

RIVER BLACK have previously revealed artwork and track-list of their debut full-length, which can both be viewed below.

FOSCOR release video for third new track

FOSCOR are premiering a new video for the next song taken from their forthcoming fifth full-length, ‘Les Irreals Visions’, which has been slated for release on June 9th.

FOSCOR comment: “Memory is an important element within this album; an extension of human experience on inhabiting the world. A net of places, ways, wefts, and bounds shapes our daily experience and builds our life at many different levels. To feel its beauty, it is mandatory to inhabit this space, embrace it and live it with the body and memories accumulated over time and experimentation. There is an important sentence within the lyrics of this song that claims ‘… At the margins of the road, big altars stand up…’, which develops the idea that when we are taken to our personal limits, a door to a new reality may appear. Following the topic on ‘Instants’, the altars are a metaphor of those moments of change. We are no longer what we were; we are images of ourselves – and a reinvention for better or worse.

This is a new video experience developed alongside the team we are used to work with. Again, there is a lot of us in the process of making this video, emotionally and physically, as well as from the people we trust and allows us to achieve the best results. We hope you enjoy and feel this journey as much as we did… ”
