Cascadian Black Metal project Bereft of Light by Romanian musician Daniel Neagoe, known from his work in bands like Shape of Despair, Eye of Solitude, Unfathomable Ruination or Clouds, is ready to release its debut full-length album, Hoinar, via Loud Rage Music, on the 26th of June 2017.
Tracklist:
I – Uitare
II – Legamant
III – Pustiu
IV – Freamat
V – Tarziu
Here’s what Daniel had to say on this new project: “Bereft of Light is a symbol for introspection, a chapter in the solitude we all long for, a thousand thoughts that break the barrier of mind and a calm before the storm of feelings. Hoinar, Romanian word for “wonderer” is a statement of solitude and introspection, a simple but ample opportunity to escape in one self’s own world where anything and everything can shape up and be coloured in all possible tints.
A soul’s journey up the ladder of life, past, present and future. A dive into the unknown of one’s mind and an open door in the mirror of eternity.”
The first single off the new album, Freamat, is now streaming here:
Sorrow Plagues Unleash New Video ‘Relinquish’ & Reveal Album Launch Show Details
Sorrow Plagues have released a new music video for the song ‘Relinquish’ which is the first single from the forthcoming sophomore album ‘Homecoming’ out May 27th.
Sorrow Plagues, is the Brainchild of British musician David Lovejoy. The new album ‘Homecoming’ ventures into new territory with added elements of post-rock, and even including some contemporary influences, whilst still maintaining the atmospheric Black Metal sounds that Sorrow Plagues is known for. This is David Lovejoy’s most ambitious effort so far. Lovejoy talks about the meaning of the song: “The song is about the importance of living in the present moment and realising that being stuck in the past and worrying about the future is the cause of a lot of our problems. I got the idea for writing lyrics on the topic whilst reading “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle.” Check out the video for ‘Relinquish’ below:
Lovejoy has recently gathered some talented and like-minded musicians to fully showcase Sorrow Plagues in a live environment, with their first gig being announced to play Bar 42 in Worthing as a free entry album launch show on May 24th, a few days before the album is released. A Night In The Abyss and Them Broads have also been announced to play with more announcements to come. Full details can be found here. Lovejoy on the release show, “I’m very excited about releasing the album at Bar 42, it’s a venue I’ve loved going to for years and playing shows there has given me plenty of experience in previous bands.”
‘Homecoming’ is due to be released on May 27th on Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify and many other digital outlets.
Tuesday The Sky, the new Ambient Instrumental Rock project by Fates Warning guitarist Jim Matheos, will be releasing its debut album ‘Drift’ worldwide on June 30th, 2017 via InsideOutMusic.
A first sound sample off the release is made available today, so listen to the album’s opening track “Today The Sky” here:
Jim Matheos checked in with the following comment about the song:
“With “Today The Sky” you get a fair representation of the overall direction on “Drift” – a lot of layered guitars and some inspired drumming from Lloyd Hanney (God Is An Astronaut).
This particular song, the first to be written, started off as an idea for Fates Warning’s last record, “Theories of Flight”. But it became apparent early on that it wouldn’t quite fit without some major changes. Rather than re-shaping the song to fit the FW mold I decided to write a record to fit the song.”
Tuesday The Sky and “Drift” sees Matheos expanding the boundaries of his playing and sound even further than ever before. “Drift” came together in the downtime between Fates Warning finishing “Theories Of Flight” and the beginning of the touring cycle, enabling Matheos to explore a type of atmospheric and instrumental music you might not expect of him. Taking cues from artists like Brian Eno, Boards Of Canada, Sigur Ros and Explosions In The Sky, he explores expansive textures and ambient electronica, as well as some of the most colossal riffs he has ever produced.
“Drift” also features the talents of God Is An Astronaut’s drummer Lloyd Hanney, who provides a rhythmic backbone that is at once punchy, precise and restrained when necessary. Other guests include long-time OSI collaborator and former Dream Theater member Kevin Moore who plays keys on two songs as well as Anna-Lynne Williams (Trespassers William, Lotte Kestner), who provides ethereal vocals (of the non-verbal kind) on two other songs.
“Drift”, whose cover artwork created by Jan Tomic can be seen above, will be released as special edition CD, black LP + CD & digital download. Here is the album’s track-listing:
