It’s said that some of the greatest bands of our time have been forged on the road, Devilfire is no exception…
Following 10 days of gigging to 2000 capacity sold out venues as special guests to former Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen, DEVILFIRE have forged a fiery path into the European Rock N’ Roll road. Returning to the UK to a sold out festival crowd at Hard Rock Hell AOR 2017 was the icing on the cake, and the Birmingham based melodic hard rock outfit are ready to conquer the world with their debut album ‘DARK MANOEUVRES‘ this October.
Mixed by acclaimed producer Romesh Dodangoda (Motorhead, Bring Me The Horizon, Bullet For My Valentine) and co-produced by Romesh and Devilfire frontman Alex Cooper (Shy, Quireboys Spike, Ginger) at Long Wave Studios in Cardiff, ‘Dark Manoeuvres’ is a mammoth 13-track album. Calling on varied influences with a darker melodic sound, this hook laden, riff filled collection of music has been carefully crafted with passion. ‘Dark Manouevres’ is set to push rock’s boundaries with its honest British roots.
“I try to put my heart on the page, be as open and honest as its all I know”, says Cooper, “Dark Manoeuvres is a therapy for me. As an artist all you can do is try to put the listener into your shoes. I feel that is the greatest power of music. It’s always what I’ve loved when listening to any music that I emotionally connect with. With this debut album we’ve taken our time to curate the best possible music we can at this stage, and I honestly believe we’ve accomplished what we set out to do.”
‘Dark Manoeuvres’ is such an accomplished debut album, you’d be forgiven for thinking this was Devilfire’s third, not first full length studio release. From the opening foot stomper ‘Ready For War’, to the true immediacy of singles ‘Waiting For A Rockstar’, ‘She’s Always On The Run’, to the swing of ‘Tear Me Apart’, and passion of closing track ‘Somehow’, this new album wears its hooks loud n’ proud, whilst easily stamping Devilfire’s own take on modern rock music.
“The songs on this record are just so good”, agrees Romesh Dodangoda, “Devilfire are definitely a band for the future.”

Devilfire vocalist Alex Cooper talks about the new album:
“‘Dark Manouevres’ is very much an inside look at my life over the last four years…the good times and bad on the UK rock n’ roll scene. Love, loss, hate, jealousy, arguments, all thrown against a background of excessive drink, drugs, and ego fuelled behaviour. Though not to blow these things out of proportion, it isn’t like the dye of Motley Crue in the 1980s. These things are very subtly done nowadays, hence the album title.
I’m an honest person, sometimes too honest, I put my life on the page and I don’t care who knows. Turn the page…”
Finnish alternative metal quintet SKEIN released a first single ‘BOUND’ from their upcoming second album named ‘DEADWEIGHT’.
Assembled with the invaluable help of producer Tuomas Kokko (Ghost Brigade, Swallow the Sun etc.), the album moves dynamically across different soundscapes, reaching from crushingly heavy guitar riffs to more etheric, atmospheric parts.
Unlike their debut album ‘Of Wings Unfolding’, which was a concept album with a strong narrative and a storyline (strengthened by a novel published alongside the physical copy) the songs on ‘Deadweight’ stand on their own. Delivered with both screaming and clean vocals, the songs explore issues from misuse of power and societal responsibility to basic human characteristics, with very personal experiences. Due the rawness and personal approach, the album is the strongest emotional outburst of Skein’s career.

Kent’s COVE mark their return by unleashing blistering new video SOLIS on an unsuspecting world. The track brims with energy and ear for detail, cementing the band as masters of cacophony who are set to make one hell of a dent in British heavy music.
“The meaning of the song Solis is subjective to the listener, everyone in the band helped contribute to it and in a way we all have our own definition of what the song is about. To some it may hint at the idea of when one door closes another opens and to someone else it may point at something far more emotive, the loss of a loved one for example. We feel song values are compromised when the outright meaning is spelled out too easily, it’s like telling someone the end of a film before they’ve watched it. Our way of thinking is that the meaning is personal to the individual/individuals listening at that moment in time. We believe this gives the audience a way to have their own personal connection with a song and not be persuaded into what they should take from it”
Recorded by Tom Keech (We Are The Ocean, Don Broco) in the midst of British winter at a studio that was undergoing construction, the icy and derelict surroundings helped to spawn the creation of SOLIS. Having spent much of 2017 crafting new music, the track is a taster of things to come from COVE. Comprising of vocalist Ben Shorten, bassist Charlie Smith, drummer Jack Bowdery and guitarists Ben Brazier & Pete Woolven, COVE released their debut effort We Were Once Lost in October of 2016. Widespread praise for the record fuelled a hefty touring schedule, including shows with Blood Youth, Create To Inspire and Holding Absence.
The band will also hit the road at the end of this month throughout August, with two date supporting Holding Absence:
7th Jul – The Ex, Corby
26th Jul – Black Heart, London
4th Aug – Forum, Tunbridge Wells (w/ Holding Absence)
5th Aug – The Booking Hall, Dover (w/ Holding Absence)
9th Aug – Sticky Mike’s, Brighton
10th Aug – Subside, Birmingham
11th Aug – O’RIleys, Hull
12th Aug – The Garage Attic, Glasgow
13th Aug – Santiagos, Leeds
