DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT – launch video for ‘Offer Your Light’; win award at Metal Hammer Golden Gods

Devin Townsend Project have been on the road touring for the majority of 2017 in support of latest album ‘Transcendence’, and recently began a run of Summer live dates including Download Festival this past weekend.

Yesterday Devin attended the Metal Hammer Golden Gods ceremony in London, where he was named ‘Riff Lord’, an award previously given to the likes of Dave Mustaine, Brian May and Phil Campbell. To celebrate, a brand new lyric video for the track ‘Offer Your Light’, taken from ‘Transcendence’, is available to see here:

Devin had this to say: “Hey all! Well heck, I guess I won an award for being a guitar guy…sweet! All those years of social ineptitude has manifested in an ability to play 32nd notes. Take that, dad! …to celebrate, we are doing a ‘lyric video’ for a track I had been encouraged to release when the album first came out, but decided to go with another one instead. As it turns out, people seem to really like this song, so have at ‘er! Here’s a kind of rockin, kind of straightforward track from Transcendence called ‘Offer Your Light’, written essentially about trying to look at the positive amidst the ever increasing sea of neurosis-inducing bullshit the world keeps spewing at us. I’m in the beginning stages of writing new music now, and I hope this finds a home in your listening world for the next 4 minutes or so…best part is; there’s no guitar solo! Lots of love, Devin ‘riff-lord’ Townsend (apparently!)”

DTP continue their Summer tour with the following dates, and have also been announced as headliner of the Prog stage at Ramblin Man Fair in the UK. Find the full list of dates below:

THOUSAND BELOW Release New Video For ‘SINKING ME’

San Diego’s Thousand Below have dropped the video for the song “Sinking Me.”

Singer James Deberg said, “We’re so incredibly excited to be releasing our music video for ‘Sinking Me’ as the second single off our album. ‘Sinking Me’ is the opening track of our record and we wanted to set the emotional tone for the album right out the gate with a high energy song that that lived on the ‘heavier’ spectrum of the record, but also carried heavy lyrical content.

Deberg continued, “The song is the introduction to the emotional descent that the album is about. Part of the lyrics in the first verse say, ‘Coming to terms with the reality of a broken spine / Cost of the weight of the world / Unsure If I can hold it all up and buy some time.’ It’s the first immediate awareness of myself ‘going-under’ metaphorically as a result of the emotional stress that came from the losses I experienced in my life two years before the album was created. The clean vocals are much more aggressive on this song than others on the record. I wanted to paint the immediate pain and frustration of the loss I experienced pulling me under right out the gate, while also giving listeners something high energy and catchy to yell along with.

He finished, “We feel ‘Tradition‘ and ‘Sinking Me’ are great introductory songs for our band to come out the gate with and we’re so excited to get the rest of the record released before the end of the year.

King Leviathan announce debut album ‘Paean Heretica’, due out 5th August on Infernum Records

King Leviathan, hailing from Brighton UK have gathered quite the following since releasing their critically acclaimed 2015 E.P ‘The Shrine’, spreading their “Black Mass” to Bloodstock Open Air and several iterations of Mammothfest as well as touring the UK with the likes of Wretched Soul, Abhorrent Decimation and Meta-Stasis.

The south coast act have become known for their combination of extreme thrash and groove metal vibes with hints of black metal, providing whirlwinds of guitar shreds. On top of that Adam Sedgwick‘s vocal capability has vastly improved since ‘The Shrine’, he makes switching from a power singing voice to furiously aggressive shouts seem effortless.

Now, the blackened thrash four-piece have just announced details for their eagerly awaited debut album, ‘Paean Heretica‘, which has been two years in the making. It is King Leviathan’s darkest and heaviest work to date, encompassing themes of loss, abandonment, blind faith and what comes after death.

The album is a nine track, 45 minute collection of ‘psalms’ which were recorded and mixed by Paul ‘Win’ Winstanley at Brighton Electric Studios, mastered by Alan Douches (Mastodon, Revocation, Motorhead, Baroness) and with art by Alex Norman (Guns ‘n’ Roses, Opeth, Katatonia, Sylosis).
