ROOT premiere music video for ‘Moment Of Fright’

Czech heavy/black metal heroes ROOT have unleashed a video for the song “Moment Of Fright”, taken from their last album “Kärgeräs – Return From Oblivion” (released in November on Agonia Records). Watch the video at this link:

ROOT is one of the original pre-second-wave black metal bands formed in 1987 by iconic vocalist Jiri ‘Big Boss’ Valter. In contrast to Bathory and VenomROOT took the black metal genre in a more refined direction, featuring Big Boss‘ chartacteristic clean vocals, dark sound and an epic approach altogether. Nowadays, ROOT is often recognized as an epic heavy/black metal act, or as the band simply puts it – a dark metal band.

The new album, “Kärgeräs – Return From Oblivion”, is different from their 2011’s offering, “Heritage Of Satan”. Commented by the band:

“As always in our history as a band, we aim to deliver a unique album, something that will stand out and shine its own light in our discography. Expect dark metal at its best, along with some surprising elements. We’ve recorded one fully acoustic song and one entirely instrumental. Overall, the album will include ten new tracks that will differ from our previous records”.

“Kärgeräs – Return From Oblivion” is ROOT‘s tenth full-length album. Lyrically, it’s a concept album, and looked at from that perspective, it continues the story begun by their 1996 release under a similar yet shorter title, “Kärgeräs”, that presents a tale of a pround nation.

The album artwork (available above) was hand-painted by Thomas Bruno. The painting started off as a portrait at first, but after the band’s decision to use it as cover, the mystical tree, ravens and other elemnts where added. Recroding, mixing and mastering took place at Shaark Studio in South Moravia. Big Boss produced the album.

Tracklist:
1. Life Of Demons

5. Black Iris
6. Moment Of Hope

Finnish extreme metal band A Lie Nation to release new EP in April!

Finnish melodic extreme metal quintet A Lie Nation will release their second EP, called “Begin Hate”, April 5th 2017 via Inverse Records.

“Begin Hate” is rough, yet melodic, extreme metal with an original touch that fuses elements from black and death metal with rock-like straightforwardness. The four song EP is a study of negative mindscapes of the human species and it spans from extreme aggression to apocalyptic and self-destructive atmospheres. Heavy hitting rhythms and razor sharp vocals are balanced out with intriguing melodies and smoothly grinding bass lines. “Begin Hate” does not bow to anyone or anything, but is sure to leave a mark with its energetic destructiveness.

“Begin Hate” was recorded during the year 2016 at Oulu, Finland. Recording, mixing, mastering and the cover art has been fully produced within A Lie Nation.

An official video “Shooting The Messenger” is available here:

WINDSWEPT stream third track of debut album

WINDSWEPT is the latest musical brainchild of Roman Sayenko. The DRUDKH mastermind is known to separate ideas that stylistically diverge from his main creative outlet into different projects such as OLD SILVER KEY, PRECAMBRIAN and RATTENFÄNGER among others.

WINDSWEPT remains relatively close to DRUDKH in comparison to other outlets of Sayenko’s inspiration as it stays within the classic expression of Ukrainian black metal. Yet ‘The Great Cold Steppe’ is deliberately kept harsh and raw, which reflects the album’s theme that was inspired by the hostile and fierce Eastern steppes during winter time.

‘The Great Cold Steppe’ was written and recorded in only three days without rehearsals and based on improvisation with instruments and vocals creating the feeling and grit of a live performance.

Better turn on the heating before listening as WINDSWEPT come in hard and merciless like a blizzard from ‘The Great Cold Steppe’.

Please note that WINDSWEPT do not give interviews, will not perform live, and do not provide pictures.

Sólstafir premiere first new song of forthcoming album

SÓLSTAFIR are now revealing the first magical song of their forthcoming sixth full-length. The new masterpiece of the enigmatic Icelandic rockers is entitled ‘Berdreyminn’, which means a “dreamer of forthcoming events” and will be out in stores on May 26th.

SÓLSTAFIR comment: “Our first premiere song ‘Ísafold’ came very spontaneously to light. It felt like the spirit of THIN LIZZY paid us a visit that day. Adding a classic Phil Rudd beat to that seemed the only right thing to do. This is not the most typical SÓLSTAFIR track but in some odd way it could be taken to represent this album. For such a short song, it offers many different sonic landscapes. And although we are not re-inventing the wheel and you will find many references to ‘classics’ as tributes, I find it quite different from anything that we have done before. That is the way, I like it and to me ‘Ísafold’ is already an all-time favourite among all our tracks.”

SÓLSTAFIR have previously released the cover art by Adam Burke and track-list of ‘Berdreyminn’, which can both be viewed below.

WITHOUT MERCY Lyric Video ‘In Waves’ ft. Mark Hunter of Chimaira
EP ‘Mouichido’ Out Now!

Vancouver, BC’s WITHOUT MERCY released their latest EP ‘Mouichido’ during May of last year. The EP was a rebirth for the band as it was a re-release of re-recorded material from their 2014 EP ‘Reborn’. ‘Mouichido’ is the Japanese word for “Repeat” or “to do one more time” and is perfectly titled for the EP to signify its re-release of previously recorded versions that now feature new vocalist Alex Friis and bass tracks recorded by Tristan Martin plus live performance being done by Ryan Loewen. Newly added to the EP was also a guest appearance by vocalist Mark Hunter of Chimaira on the track ‘In Waves’, which the band is releasing a new lyric video for and have teamed up with Bravewords.com to exclusively premiere.

Without Mercy guitarist DJ Temple had this to say:

“Working with Mark Hunter and seeing what he could do with one of our tracks was a pretty unreal experience!”
