Rikard Sjöblom’s Gungfly Sign to InsideOutMusic; new album to be released in May

Following last years disbanding of Sweden’s much-loved progressive rockers Beardfish, vocalist and driving force Rikard Sjöblom has turned his attention to his solo project Gungfly, and signed with InsideOutMusic for the release of their next album ‘On Her Journey To The Sun’ on 19th May 2017.
Rikard had this to say: “Gungfly was born out of necessity, songs came to life whenever there was downtime with Beardfish or if a song didn’t quite fit within Beardfish’s (otherwise quite broad and eclectic) frame of styles. I basically started recording songs, mainly pop-oriented material, but being the type of songwriter and musician I am, some prog slipped through the radar as well. With the break-up of Beardfish all of the prog-related material I write needed to go somewhere and Gungfly was ready and able for this step!”

“I recorded what was to become the first album between 2007 – 2008 and it was released in 2009. The name Gungfly is a Swedish word meaning unsecure ground, and it came from a novel I read where it was used to describe that someone didn’t have grounds to back up their statements, so I liked it and chose to call the project that!” Rikard continues: “I’ve always been writing and recording lots of music and when I formed the live band to perform these songs for the first time I got to pick some of my oldest friends to play with and thankfully they wanted to be part of it! Petter and Rasmus Diamant (yes, they’re brothers) on drums and bass have always been the backbone foundation in this line-up and sometimes we actually do gigs as the Gungfly trio. Sverker Magnusson has been behind the keys since the start and was recently joined by Martin Borgh too to be able to cover all of the keyboard work on the albums, so sometimes we do three keyboard players on stage at the same time! This is made possible by the fact that guitarist David Zackrisson (Beardfish) is in the band as well. Me then? I do what I’ve always done; sing, play guitars and a bunch of vintage keyboards (mainly Hammond organ) – and I have lots of fun.”

Rikard Sjöblom is perhaps best known as the multi-instrumentalist frontman of Beardfish, who established themselves as one of the most consistently brilliant modern-day progressive rock bands over the course of eight studio albums. In recent years, he has also become known for his work with English progressive collective Big Big Train, playing live with them as well as performing on their 2016 album ‘Folklore’. That year also marked the release of his most recent solo album under his own name, ‘The Unbendable Sleep’.

Brooklyn hard rock legends LIFE OF AGONY have completed work on their new album and Napalm Records debut A Place Where There’s No More Pain, which will be released April 28th via Napalm Records. Today the first video offering for the album’s title track “A Place Where There’s No More Pain” has been unleashed.   The video was directed by Leigh Brooks of Firebelly Films and was shot predominately in Hamburg, Germany with a few shots from the London show on LOA’s recent European tour.  Video was premiered by  Popmatters.com and you can watch it here. HERE.

“We were looking to capture the raw energy of our live show with the new video for ‘A Place Where There’s No More Pain’, says bassist Alan Robert. “As a longtime LOA fan, Director Leigh Brooks instantly knew exactly what we were going for. He’s been a fan since the early nineties and we finally met at the Electric Ballroom gig in London last year. He shot that show and we immediately became friends. He’s a super talented guy with great vision and a deep passion for this band. He and his crew got pretty banged up shooting this one (laughs). They got right in the pit with their equipment – the poor guys! Leigh was one of the very first people outside of the band to hear the new music and he was completely psyched to be involved.”

SNOVONNE Details New Album “THE CHILD AND THE BITCH”

Sno.jpg

Snovonne is known for her melancholic and psychoanalytic creations, which often reveal things one would rather not see.  The new album The Child And The Bitch is exactly that and so much more.

“The concept carries a strong psychoanalytic undertone.” Snovonne says. “It’s about perception, points of view. It’s the battle between two voices – how you were born vs. what the world turns you into. There’s no right or wrong, both the entities have values to stand on, but that doesn’t stop them from clashing… I wanted to give room to both voices.”

The album will be introduced with the super-melancholic “Best Days”.  Coming out March 17th, the video presents the album’s concept of duality, musically and visually.

The third official full-length album The Child And The Bitch (subtitled “Chronicles 1984 – 2014”) has been in production since 2015 and is now scheduled for release on April 17th.

“Best Days” Trailer!

With all artistic gears spinning to a maximum, it’s a big leap forward – not only its heavily emotional and expressive content, but also in its audio and visual presentation. Heavy-hitting, stomping riffs are supported by epic, aggressive orchestral arrangements and cut through with razor-sharp melancholy.

Sno´s grandfather was, in his time, a reputable psychiatrist with a passion for fine arts and swing music. That had a significant influence on her artistic life.

She continues: “I’ve always been fascinated by old medical journals and books… Grew up around it, family of doctors… So given the self-analytical tone of the record, it was only natural to make the artwork an old medical journal. The lyrics are my entries with dates when they were written, some of them I wrote when I was very young. As a parallel, I put in old articles from the 20’s, which I scanned from the original personal scrapbook of Dr. Frederick Finch Strong. He was a renowned persona of the last century – promoter of electrotherapy, cutting-edge in developing methods of treatment, and highly esoteric and eccentric. He was the first American to employ Tesla Coils therapeutically.”
