Sinister riffs. Unrelenting energy. A voice from the shadows that refuses to be silenced. Today, ARSENIC KITCHEN officially drops their brand-new single “Devil’s Advocate.”
“Devil’s Advocate” is a track that drags listeners into the underworld with haunting hooks, punishing grooves, and lyrics that dare you to question everything you thought you believed. It’s more than a song — it’s a manifesto, an anthem for the outcasts who thrive in the shadows.
THEM DAMN KINGS, the hard rock / heavy metal wrecking machine founded by guitarist/vocalist Jef Rhodes, has unleashed their new single titled “OVERBOARD” The track highlights the band’s signature style with in your face riffs, blistering solos, and unique
vocal style that the band’s fans have come to expect. “OVERBOARD” is available across all major streaming platforms. Video for “OVERBOARD” can be seen here:
Rhodes, exclaims “This song is very personal to me as it was written in such a messed up tragic way. It still makes me feel weird when I listen to it or play it. I was on one of those Rock “n” Roll cruise’s and the whole boat was woken up at like 5am with horns blasting and over the intercom they were saying we were in a man
overboard situation. I just remember looking out the window of the cabin and seeing this blinking light out on the stormy water. I thought for sure they got this guy at first but as the minutes kept creeping along it started to become painfully obvious they weren’t finding this guy, and my head started racing as if I was putting myself in this guys point of view. So I grabbed my notebook and just started writing. I mean Normally it takes me some time to write lyrics, especially lyrics. But this song was written in real time as it was all unfolding” I mean nobody at that time really knew the guy jumped, so I couldn’t really comprehend why someone would intentionally jump overboard off a cruise ship I just thought the guy fell and it really freaked me out. So now there’s a song about it.”
Them Damn Kings has also welcomed New Jersey native Cooper Hughes joining the band as their full time drummer following Ryan Folden’s departure. Cooper and Jef have completed tracking what will become the band’s sophomore album, following up their debut album “Rise Up” which spawned the single “Throw It Away” reaching #4 on the NACC radio charts.
Cooper adds, “I’m thrilled to be a part of the next chapter of Them Damn Kings! “OVERBOARD” offers a glimpse into whats ahead. Jef’s songwriting on this track perfectly encapsulates a moment in time, capturing the raw emotion of this tragedy. It’s a powerful, unrelenting display of Rock “n” Roll. Crank it up and enjoy the ride!”
Unleashes Epic Cover of Marilyn Manson’s “THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE”
The vision behind our ‘The Beautiful People’ cover stems from a unique personal connection. Marilyn Manson’s groundbreaking original, released almost three decades ago, immediately struck me. Simultaneously, the imagery from the 1932 movie Freaks, especially its legendary dinner scene, left a lasting impression. For me, the song always evoked the film. Our cover project makes this fusion explicit: the visuals (video/artwork) directly blend these influences. Sonically, it’s a tribute reimagined through the heavy GILLSAW lens – respecting the core while delivering our distinct, powerful sound.
FOG WATCH Narrative:
“Fog Watch” tells the tragic story of Ian, a man descending into madness. Through a series of increasingly distorted experiences, we witness his journey from isolated lighthouse keeper to drug-addicted nomad.
Fog Watch: Ian battles loneliness and encroaching insanity, symbolized by the perpetual fog. The lyrics reflect his isolation and mental deterioration.
Thankful: Ian’s desire for validation turns to bitter rage as he resents the lack of gratitude from those he protects.
Rizen: Ian falls under the influence of a false deity, surrendering reason for blind obedience.
Siren Comes: Ian faces nightly temptations, battling internal fears and desires.
Trenched In: Ian’s final act of devotion leads to his self-burial, a symbolic death and rebirth.
Bombay Way: The reality is revealed: Ian’s experiences were drug-induced delusions, culminating in a fatal overdose in Bombay Beach.
“FOG WATCH” explores themes of isolation, the search for meaning, and the destructive power of delusion.
GILLSAW’S SOUND
Gillsaw’s sound is a meticulously crafted fusion of heavy metal’s muscularity and industrial music’s stark, electronic edge. This powerful core is layered with intricate progressive structures and ethereal new age ambient textures, creating a dynamic and immersive atmosphere that defies genre boundaries.
Swedish progressive metallers hit harder with their sixth album, ‘Memorial,’ which is more aggressive and potent yet always melodic and alluring in keeping with their signature style.
Welcome Rootbrain! Their debut album Breakwater has finally released today (June 14, 2023) after much anticipation! The band is comprised of music scene veterans, including members of Triptykon, Profane Omen and Kuolemanlaakso.
Jules Näveri – vocals V. Santura – lead guitar Hurja Helle – rhythm guitar Thomas Wright – bass Fat Tony – drums
No frills, Breakwater is a solid album. Old school sound with a fresh coat of paint and anguish, embellished with occasional wisps from the members previously existing bands. Rootbrain consider themselves “Black Grunge”, which is definitely the sound at the core of it all, but there are also constant bursts and streams from every corner of metal, rock and alternative music . The easy flow of ballad breakdowns, electrifying solos, groovy melodies, doomy riffs, heart wrenching harmonies and chill acoustic interludes keeps your ears, mind and soul on edge. Throw all of those things into a blender with a shot of whisky, sunshine, and the notion that this world is going down in flames- and you have Breakwater. I couldn’t imagine a better time of year for this album to have been released than the beginning of summer. Listening to it makes me want nothing more than to lounge in the sun and drink to the end of the world. The album is equally as diverse in lyrical themes, bending from rage to sorrow to power to pain, reflecting the soul of the writer, and the world surrounding them. A positive reflection of the fucknesses of life. Acceptance of the shitty state of the world with a grin. A view of a dystopian hell through rose colored glasses.
Breakwater is saturated with the vibe of guys making music for the sake of music and friendship. Guys who love what they do, and recorded the most professional and intricate jam session ever. In their bio, they describe themselves as a “band built on brotherhood” and this album smacks you in the face with that notion. I can almost see their live show with intense jamming, jokes, tricks, and a laid back but professional stage presence where they are all in sync with each other as well as the audience. This album really makes me want to experience them live. Now. No… like, yesterday!
