Neoheresy was brought into being in the year 2012. After recording the last material named Hellveto “Damnaretis”, it is time for a stylistic evolution resulting in the change of the project’s name.

The Music conception of the Neoheresy horde is directed towards monumental Black Metal with the influence of ancient folk and symphonic music as well as the lyrical, vocal part, and live drums. Some types of electric and acoustic guitars, keyboards, synths and ethnical instruments are being used in this project.

The Musically Neoheresy has an emotional and hegemonic overtone due to the solo character of the performance.
As was mentioned in description, Neoheresy’s genre is black metal. But, surprisingly, there’s only a small part of their music consists from pagan black metal as we used listen to. “Oblawa” is more deep and diverse album with real atmospheric tunes, creating associations with obscurantism of Middle Ages, half-mysterious beliefs of people and witchery.

A lot of additional instruments, choir and symphonic parts create unique atmosphere. It all begins with an intro – “Preludium”, with horse’s hooves sound in the background which adds a bit of intriguing mystery. Vocals is worth to mention – from croak it goes to narrative, as in “Powróca… ” for instance, which catch the attention along with Polish lyrics.

What differs that album is that there’s no “standard” black-metal guitar riffs and characteristic “heaviness”. Guitar work itself is used as an additive, but perfectly fits in the songs structure. Choirs are presented almost in every song and they give certain volume and epicness to the album. Neoheresy found this golden mean – a lot of elements are used in songs, but sound is not overloaded. It’s hard to classify it to any black metal subgenres, as this album is too original and deep to fit in any frames.

Wolfheart releases its albums with stable pause, and distinguishes by their productive leader Tuomas Saukkonen, which has music career long before and include different music projects.

And this time, his main band Wolfheart offers a new album called “Tyhjyys”, which means “Empty” or “Emptiness”. So, let’s dive into this Finnish Emptiness.

Diving takes starts with melancholiac acoustic guitar turning into freezing riffs in “Shores of Lake” with shouts. “Boneyard” with firm Wolfheart sound and kind of a “hit” riffs, especially the first one, was right chosen for single and keeps exact its place in song order. It’s worth to mention that none of songs sounds out of place, everything is well placed in a right time. From this point, “Tyhjyys” doesn’t differ from previous band’s works – “Winterborn” and “Shadow world” – both of them have its well-made song order.

However, in some atmospheric elements appear – synth choir and piano parts in “World on Fire” for instance, which gives some “volume” to guitar lines. Then going deeper in winter emptiness with “The Flood” and its melancholic sounds of downtuned acoustic guitar, which turns then into so-“Wolfheartish” epic riffs with orchestra elements shining in between, creating an atmosphere of fatigue and a bit of nostalgia.

“The Rift” and “Call of the Winter” are continuing this tendency with orchestra lines flying together with instrumental ones and acoustic guitar interludes between riffs, bass line and intense drum ornament.

“Dead White” is differs from other songs on this album by quite fast and at the same time melodic rhythm, which didn’t slow its way during the whole song. The final part is “Tyhjyys” with Finnish lyrics, which echoes with the closure song of “Shadow World” – “Veri”.

Tyhjyys is the perfect clothing to this album of the same name – freezing emptiness has reached out its arm and took the listener to its freezing realm. Nothing exceptionally original or innovative, but still very catchy and atmospheric.

Wolfheart is still keeping the level and their own niche of melodic death metal, or winter metal, hehe. Their third album proved it.

After their impressive return in march 201 5 with their “Freier Wille – Freier Geist” album, the southern German Pagan Black Metallers THORMESIS present their fifth longplayer called “Trümmerfarben” in early 2017. Musically, they continue where they left off with the predecessor album. „Trümmerfarben“ is a logical progression of the chosen path. Great melodies in a vicious and frosty, black metal-worthy sound, pave the way through the songs. The album appears in an impressively Digi-Pack, illustrated by Hubert Dürr (Internus), while the cover has been done by Bloodboy.

„Trümmerfarben“pleases listeners with strong material at joint of pagan and black metal. Instrumental epic intro with this opus of Thormesis. Guitar work and composition in general are at a good level, and that’s album’s advantage. However, they are between genres they play, Thormesis, melodicism is inherent for song structures, standard for black metal tremolo riffs are diluted with solos and riffs themselves sometimes come close to the rock ‘n’ sound. It’s even possible to catch the notes reminiscent of Kvelertak, for example. Although there’s nothing original from technical and compositional point of view and structure in general is the same, from song to song, album sound solidly. Vocal – extremely intense high scream, in principle, is suitable for music, but becomes monotonous at some point. The use of clean vocals in the end “Waheelas Fährte” caused persistent association with Månegarm, and the song itself is the “hit” of the album. Well, it can be said, that Thormesis’ „Trümmerfarben“ successfully unites black metal rawness, pagan atmosphere and melodicism. Album is available via MDD Records.

The beginnings of the band date back to 2010 when three fans of sci-fi thrash metal were brought together and they started playing together. Soon they recorded their first demo, which was never released and after that in January 2011, there has been a change in the lineup of the band. Later that year they released a demo entitled “Galactic usurper”. In November 2013, the quartet released their second demo “Stellar damnation”. New Ep titled “Ascendance” was released in late 2016.
First, what catches an attention, it’s a description in preview – “Genre: Sci Fi Death/ Black Metal, Lyrics: Sci-fi, Space conquest”. Sounds intriguingly. Not a lot of bands who’s digging these themes deeply come to mind. Alien “Nihility” is an opening for the next four songs and prepare us for space conquests. But, on this “sci-fi” atmosphere unfortunately ends. Next tracks go smoothly after each other, material is quite easy to listen without heaped and extremely difficult elements, though it’s not primitive. Solos are in place and in harmony with rhythm, with inclusions of clean guitar sound, which gives more atmosphere to music canvas, like in the “Path to omniscience”, for instance. Vocal descends from the high-pitch screams to growl that cannot fail to please. Well, in the “Ascendance” feels band’s diligent work and EP may antedate a good album. Made on the same level, at least. EP “Ascendance” is self-released and available via band’s Bandcamp profile.

REVIEW: Quintessenz- To the Gallows

In 2010, Quintessenz was formed as a one-man-project by Genözider.(Bulldozing Bastard,Vulture,Luzifer). After the first Demo in 2011. The First EP under the banners of “Evil Spell Records“, namely “Okkult Metal Spell” from 2012, was a contiunuation to this kind of Metal . Rough sound, simple Riffs,Fuck-off-attitude! In 2013 the first Album “Back to the Kult of the Tyrants” comes out and was a complete dedication to the “First Wave of Black Metal“ Bands like Venom,Celtic Frost and Hellhammer.
The new Album “To the Gallows” goes one step further and is more melodic. The development results in more complex song structures, many details in songwriting and surprises the listener with unawaited elements that gives an in depth experience. They ́ve added a lot of influences from classical heavy metal this time full of variety in the songs which are often hymnic melodic, but also aggressive without denying their roots.
Straight to the edge and very in your face Quintessenz’s second album crashes on the listener’s head their uncompromised sound from the first song – “Zeitgeist Verreke.” Abrupt drums, harsh vocal and raw guitars are making a good…Quintessenz. Influenced by heavy metal melodic solos, as in ‘Sounding the Funeral Bell” or “Endless Night” for example, bring diversity to raw riffs in early thrash’n’black metal traditions, which at some moments get closer even to crust. Aggressive harsh yelling switches to clean vocals gives dramatic drop to the dirty sound. Especially it gets its high point in “Endless Night” when vocal mixed with acoustic guitar sound and then turns into slow guitar solo. Worthy to mention eastern-type melody, which gives an exotic breeze to “Seth” and then continues in fast riffs during the whole song. Need to mention interesting elements like recitative in beginning of “To the Gallows” and female vocal, which gives more atmosphere to this song. Songs’ structure is also diverse, changes in tempo and guitar work make album more complex and deep. “To the Gallows” is made smoothly, all songs are on their place and don’s stand out, though this album can’t be described as monotonous. Strong and quite interesting release.
