LACUNA COIL release new single ‘I Wish You Were Dead’

As the band prepares to release their brand new studio album Sleepless Empire, Italian metal titans LACUNA COIL have released the ultimate single ‘I Wish You Were Dead’ alongside a stunning music video.

‘I Wish You Were Dead’ is about the emotional turmoil and struggle that accompanies toxic relationships. The song’s video, which premieres this evening at 8pm GMT, takes the track’s heavy theme and spins it into a romantic Goth tale just in time for Valentine’s Day. Filmed by Martina L McLean in a church in Capranica, a small town north of Rome, it marks a first in the history of LACUNA COIL: the band performing a choreography!

On the new single, the band shares:
“We all have this person we wish never existed, right? We all felt the need to erase the same person from our thoughts, someone who hurt us that it’s still in our mind. We wanted to write heavier lyrics on a happier musical canvas.  Also we are a little tired of being politically correct at all costs…”

Sleepless Empire marks the tenth studio album of LACUNA COIL, released 14th February via Century Media Records. It is the first long play release after their remake album Comalies XX, which came out 2022. The new album comprises eleven new tracks; and each one is a richly textured soundtrack to a specific time and a place. With Sleepless Empire, that place is dark, cinematic, and unmistakably true to the unique characteristics that have given LACUNA COIL such a celebrated entry in the annals of heavy music. Buy and stream the record here.

Speaking about the album, the band shares:
“Sleepless Empire captures, through our eyes, the chaos of a generation trapped in a digital world that never stops, where social media consumes identity and every day pushes us one step closer to becoming soulless zombies. We find ourselves in between, having witnessed a full analogic world and the modern one, confronting the evolution and searching for a true meaning of it all. Throughout every song, the journey is an undercurrent of rebellion, a desperate cry to reclaim oneself in an era that seems to have lost its sense of time and reality.”

To celebrate the album release and give fans the chance to be a part of the Sleepless Empire, several in-store events on release day across Europe have been announced. Find your nearest shop here.

In addition, the band will be available to sign the new album in London at HMV Oxford Street on Valentine’s Day, starting at 6pm, with additional signing events to follow in Italy next week. Tickets for the UK event are available here.

SWALLOW THE SUN release first single and music video “Innocence Was Long Forgotten”

photo: Jussi Ratilainen

Finnish melo-doom metallers Swallow the Sun released the first single “Innocence Was Long Forgotten” from their upcoming album on July 2nd accompanied by a breathtaking video.

“All the new music from Swallow The Sun felt like an ice dagger through a sleeping heart. So we wanted to work with influential producer Dan Lancaster (Bring Me the Horizon, Muse, Enter Shikari etc.) to drive this dagger even deeper into our hearts.”

Those ideas and feelings were successfully portrayed in the single as well as in the music video directed by Vesa Ranta, which was a spot on visual representation of the sounds and lyrical themes. Stark duality of dark and light, new and old, familiar and foreign sounds all blend together to deliver a staggering ice bath of new music from the band. Many fans were taken aback, but are eagerly waiting to hear the new album in its entity.

Swallow the Sun have been torchbearers of melodic doom since 2000. Beauty in Gloom has been a running theme in their identity, lyrics and sound for almost twenty four years. Reaching global fame with fan-praised music videos (10+ million YouTube views) and streaming dominance (50+ million Spotify plays) and has played more than 900 gigs on four continents during their 20-year career. However this new single suggests their sound might have gone through some form of metamorphosis and will emerge with something new and unfamiliar yet no less visceral and striking as their previous music.

Their only current live date is at Hellsinki Metal Festival on August 9th. More info on future dates to come.
