Season of Mist Signs “1349”

Season of Mist  announce the signing of 1349. The Norwegian black metal stalwarts have already been signed to this label in the US and now extend the deal to a worldwide representation.

Regarding their signing, 1349 comment: “We are currently in the early creative stages of our new art offering and we are exited to confirm that we have extended our agreement with partners Season of Mist – this time handling the release worldwide.”

unnamed

When 1349 rose from the ashes of ALVHEIM in 1997, the band was driven by a deep desire to keep the black metal flame burning in all its rebellious glory. The Norwegians set out with the declared aim to remain true to the original spirit of their scene, which they saw heading into all the wrong directions.

Conceived around the founding members, which consisted of vocalist and first drummer Ravn, guitarist Tjalve, and Seidemann on bass, 1349 completed their line-up with the addition of guitarist Archaon in 1999 and SATYRICON drum-legend Frost, after the latter recorded a demo and the debut album with the band in 2001.

When their debut ‘Liberation’ was finally unleashed in 2003, 1349 took the world by storm with their intense blend of old school black metal soundscapes and ultra-fast aggression. Further assaults followed in rapid succession. ‘Beyond the Apocalypse’ (2004) and ‘Hellfire’ (2005) cemented the Norwegians’ reputation as one of the strongest acts in the already peaked scene, where they managed to carve out a claim for their own.

Founding member Tjalve decided to focus on his band PANTHEON I and 1349have since continued as a four-piece – occasionally adding renowned guest guitarists. Extensive touring aided the growth of a massive following, which started to seriously reach across the Atlantic, when 1349 opened for reunited metal legends Celtic Frost in North America in 2006.

In an impressive demonstration that dedication to the origins and early principles of black metal does not have to mean nostalgia and stagnation,1349 considerably widened their sonic palette with the next full-length ‘Revelations of the Black Flame’ (2009), which was co-mixed by iconic CELTIC FROST mastermind Tom Gabriel “Warrior” Fischer.

Their newly found darker and more ambient side, was further explored and interwoven with the earlier sonic approach, which 1349 dub “aural hellfire” on the following ‘Demonoir’ (2010). Extensive touring and performances at prestigious festivals around the globe filled the period from 2010 to 2012.

‘Massive Cauldron of Chaos’ (2013) was the next milestone in the Norwegian’s merciless advance, scoring excellent reviews and sparking more festival shows as well as extended touring, which also brought 1349 for the first time to Australia and New Zealand. Now the band is preparing to unleash more “aural hellfire” onto the expecting world via Season of Mist.

AZARATH (feat. drummer Inferno of BEHEMOTH ) reveal lyric video for new song “At The Gates Of Understanding”

Polish death/black metal tyrants AZARATH premiere a brand new song from their highly anticipated album “In Extremis”, set to be released on April 7th via Agonia Records. Available in a form of a lyric video, “At The Gates Of Understanding” is the first single to be released from the album. It arrives six long years after the band’s last installment, “Blasphemers’ Maledictions”, from 2011. The lyric video was created by Tomasz Strzałkowski and can be watched here:

Touted as a “demonic mutation of Krisiun and Behemoth with shades of Immolation”, AZARATH stand up to their wicked name. The band’s death metal is crisp, black, and while it possesses the charm of their American counterparts, it remains open-minded and organic. This should not come as a surprise, considering the AZARATH‘s impressive line-up and cemented position as one the the best Polish acts of the genre. The band was formed in 1998 by drummer Inferno (of  Behemoth fame). He’s accompanied by Bart (Armagedon, Damnation) on guitars, Necrosodom (Anima Damnata, Deus Mortem, ex-Infernal War) on vocals and guitars, as well as Peter (ex-Lost Soul) on bass.

Meaning “at the point of death” or “under extreme circumstances” in Latin, “In Extremis” is yet another apex reached by AZARATH. Offering a vehement ride through the netherworlds, the effort places the band back at the fore of the genre, with strong ties to the group’s early cult albums. The eerie painting that adorns the album’s cover was made by Marta Promińska (Hypnagogic Painting).

Recorded in various locations between March and November 2016, “In Extremis” was mixed and mastered by Haldor Grunberg at Satanic Audio. Graphic design and layout were done by Mentalporn (Behemoth, Origin, Decapitated) with calligraphy provided by Ihasan Art and additional work by Holy Poison Design.

REVIEW: Insanity Cult – of Despair and Self-Destruction

Insanity Cult – of Despair and Self-Destruction

Review by Ekaterina K. / Dark Art Conspiracy

Insanity Cult were created back in 2011 by Έκπτωτος (Lead Guitar) and Sacrilegious (Vocals) as a means of deeper inner expression and exploration. In 2012, Beleth (Drums) and Buer (Bass) joined the line up, while Vohamon (Rhythm Guitar) joined a year later in 2013.

Throughout the years the band experimented intensely with their sound and ripened both musically and ideologically, thus new elements were added while some others were removed. The general sound however, was always based around melodies and feelings of melancholy, nihilism, hatred and despair. The first EP “Insanity Be My Kvlt“, which was a raw rehearsal recording, was released in January of 2014, followed by the release of the debut full-length album “As My End Unfolds…” in April of 2015. Now, the band’s second opus is to be released in 11th february of 2017.

To characterize this album can be one word – it’s color of grey, which pretty matches the cover. Grey, addictive melancholy begins with a prologue – “The Light That Drowned Itself” and it felt throughout the album. Tremolos, blast beats and high, hysterical scream are the main elements characterizing this album. However, in some places main carcass is diluted by interesting combinations, as for instance, in the “IX”, clean guitar and scream made a good combination, which add more atmosphere “Interlude-The Bitter Wind of Remembrance” divides album on two parts by its monotonous melody which, however, fits well and doesn’t sound out of place. On the contrary, it aggravates melancholic and fatigue mood of the album. The second part, which consists from three songs is more measured and slow. Band has been progressed in songwriting and composition, releasing an album with good mixing of atmosphere of despair and frozen carcass of black metal riffs.

Score: 4/5

YAYLA Releases “Pas.to.rale” via Merdümgiriz Records

YAYLA is back with its fifth full-length “Pas.to.rale”, the first release from this ambient black metal act in four years.

yayla.jpg

Released by Merdümgiriz Records on February 5th, 2017, the project from multi-instrumentalist Emir Toğrul presents a heavy fusion of ambient and metal, and after the departure from the monotonous sound of the now cult trilogy, “Pas.to.rale” sees YAYLA sounding more dynamic, oppressive and hypnotic than ever before, and while there are countless influences from different styles and techniques, this album is surprisingly tight and unified.

YAYLA’s Emir Toğrul comments: «”Pas.to.rale” takes many forms with lengthy instrumental tracks, from synth driven string ensemble ambiences to psychedelic guitar tracks, to “traditional” black and death metal songs with very unconventional structures fused with synths. The YAYLA concept is at its pinnacle in “Pas.to.rale”, with the name of the band and our whole concept of nature based metal music coming to an alchemical home as we delve back into our roots after all these years of adventures as VIRANESIR and BLIGHTED in an ironic existential absurdity. It’s a tale of dungeon style atmosphere, relentless black metal, nostalgic overdose and musical hypnosis.»

As with all his work on Merdümgiriz Records, each copy of “Pas.to.rale” CD, Tape, t-shirt and patch will be handmade in the artisanal style. Emir paints the discs, cuts and inserts the prints for the jewel case and jacket, making all non-machined parts from scratch. All current and upcoming merch comes to fans directly from the hand of the creator himself.

“Pas.to.rale” is available for streaming and full download at this location:

1. Altars In Temple Sewers
2. Everyday Is Death For Us
3. Pandora
4. Funeral
5. Steadfast Chaos
6. Endless Regrets
7. Mantras Of Separation

REVIEW: Teleport – Ascendance

REVIEW: Teleport – Ascendance

Review by Ekaterina  / Dark Art Conspiracy

a3887822602_10

Tracklist:
1. Nihility
2. The Monolith
3. Artificial divination
4. Realm of solar darkness
5. Path to omniscience
Lineup:
Jan Medved (vocals, guitars)
Lovro Babič (bass)
Matija “Dole” Dolinar (guitars)
Darian Kocmur (drums)

The beginnings of the band date back to 2010 when three fans of sci-fi thrash metal were brought together and they started playing together. Soon they recorded their first demo, which was never released and after that in January 2011, there has been a change in the lineup of the band. Later that year they released a demo entitled “Galactic usurper”. In November 2013, the quartet released their second demo “Stellar damnation”. New Ep titled “Ascendance” was released in late 2016.
First, what catches an attention, it’s a description in preview – “Genre: Sci Fi Death/ Black Metal, Lyrics: Sci-fi, Space conquest”. Sounds intriguingly. Not a lot of bands who’s digging these themes deeply come to mind. Alien “Nihility” is an opening for the next four songs and prepare us for space conquests. But, on this “sci-fi” atmosphere unfortunately ends. Next tracks go smoothly after each other, material is quite easy to listen without heaped and extremely difficult elements, though it’s not primitive. Solos are in place and in harmony with rhythm, with inclusions of clean guitar sound, which gives more atmosphere to music canvas, like in the “Path to omniscience”, for instance. Vocal descends from the high-pitch screams to growl that cannot fail to please. Well, in the “Ascendance” feels band’s diligent work and EP may antedate a good album. Made on the same level, at least. EP “Ascendance” is self-released and available via band’s Bandcamp profile.

Score: 4,5/5
