AT THE GATES – Anders Björler quits; Band working on new album!

Having completed an extremely comprehensive worldwide touring campaign in support of their highly acclaimed comeback album “At War With Reality”, Swedish melodic Death Metal pioneers AT THE GATES are ready to break the silence and have checked in with a status update as follows:

“So, it is now official that Anders Björler is no longer a part of At The Gates. He will always be part of the At The Gates family, of course, but he will no longer write, record or play with us live. This is something that we, the rest of the band, have felt was on its way for quite some time, as that special spark was no longer with him the last year. We are grateful for all we have experienced together with him, all the records, all the songs, all the gigs, all the laughs and good times.

The rest of us have in the meantime started the work on the follow up to ‘At War With Reality’, we already have three songs written, and the direction is set for an intense, hungry follow-up album. Jonas has always written a considerable part of the bands’ material and we are fully confident that the new material will live up to the standards set by our previous records. It is ripping. The four of us still have the burning urge to create death metal together, and we love playing live in front of our fans, so we will go on, with an even stronger intent.

While writing the new record, that we intend to record in the beginning of 2018, we are trying out Anders’ replacement. Some auditions are being held as we speak, and we will get back to you with news on the matter as soon as we know more.”

Anders Björler has added the following comment on his departure from the band’s ranks:

“Just a quick note to let everybody know that I am leaving At The Gates permanently. The passion is just gone. There might be a more lengthy statement in the future, but at the moment I feel no need to explain further.

This is a personal decision, and it has 100% to do with the music side of things. The reunion in 2008, and the subsequent tours, as well as the comeback album ’At War With Reality’, really helped revisiting our friendship, and it brought us together in a way I will always remember and cherish.

I would also like to thank all the people that supported us throughout the reunion shows as well as the ’At War With Reality’ album. Thanks a lot!”

Further details and updates on the progress of the next album will be following soon…

Rikard Sjöblom’s Gungfly Sign to InsideOutMusic; new album to be released in May

Following last years disbanding of Sweden’s much-loved progressive rockers Beardfish, vocalist and driving force Rikard Sjöblom has turned his attention to his solo project Gungfly, and signed with InsideOutMusic for the release of their next album ‘On Her Journey To The Sun’ on 19th May 2017.
Rikard had this to say: “Gungfly was born out of necessity, songs came to life whenever there was downtime with Beardfish or if a song didn’t quite fit within Beardfish’s (otherwise quite broad and eclectic) frame of styles. I basically started recording songs, mainly pop-oriented material, but being the type of songwriter and musician I am, some prog slipped through the radar as well. With the break-up of Beardfish all of the prog-related material I write needed to go somewhere and Gungfly was ready and able for this step!”

“I recorded what was to become the first album between 2007 – 2008 and it was released in 2009. The name Gungfly is a Swedish word meaning unsecure ground, and it came from a novel I read where it was used to describe that someone didn’t have grounds to back up their statements, so I liked it and chose to call the project that!” Rikard continues: “I’ve always been writing and recording lots of music and when I formed the live band to perform these songs for the first time I got to pick some of my oldest friends to play with and thankfully they wanted to be part of it! Petter and Rasmus Diamant (yes, they’re brothers) on drums and bass have always been the backbone foundation in this line-up and sometimes we actually do gigs as the Gungfly trio. Sverker Magnusson has been behind the keys since the start and was recently joined by Martin Borgh too to be able to cover all of the keyboard work on the albums, so sometimes we do three keyboard players on stage at the same time! This is made possible by the fact that guitarist David Zackrisson (Beardfish) is in the band as well. Me then? I do what I’ve always done; sing, play guitars and a bunch of vintage keyboards (mainly Hammond organ) – and I have lots of fun.”

Rikard Sjöblom is perhaps best known as the multi-instrumentalist frontman of Beardfish, who established themselves as one of the most consistently brilliant modern-day progressive rock bands over the course of eight studio albums. In recent years, he has also become known for his work with English progressive collective Big Big Train, playing live with them as well as performing on their 2016 album ‘Folklore’. That year also marked the release of his most recent solo album under his own name, ‘The Unbendable Sleep’.

DREAM EVIL – Announce new album “SIX”; Unveil cover artwork and launch first album trailer!

Long years have passed since the last time Swedish powerhouse DREAM EVIL unleashed their brand of Metal. That silence is about to be shattered with the release of their new in-your-face sixth album, aptly titled “SIX”, on May 26th, 2017 via Century Media Records.

Succeeding 2010’s “In The Night” release, “SIX” has been once again produced by DREAM EVIL guitarist Fredrik Nordström at his own Studio Fredman facilities, which is obviously the birth place of many modern Metal masterpieces by bands such as In Flames, Arch Enemy, HammerFall, At The Gates, Dimmu Borgir, Powerwolf or also Architects and Bring Me The Horizon.

DREAM EVIL checked in with the following comment about the upcoming release:“Finally, SIX years after the release of ‘In The Night’ we started to record our new album entitled ‘SIX’, which is DREAM EVIL’s album number SIX. We know it took us a while to get our thumbs out of our asses, but now the wait is over and we are sure the new material has made the waiting time worthwhile. On May 26th the time is here, it’s time for ‘SIX’.”

While DREAM EVIL are currently busy shooting video clips for the new album with longtime partner in visuals Patric Ullaeus / www.revolver.se (In Flames, Lacuna Coil, Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Within Temptation, etc.), here is already a first trailer for “SIX”:

Beware! The sheer amount of fierceness on HATE’s upcoming album is beyond anything these Polish Extreme Black / Death metallers have ever done before! Fast and well-defined songs set a new standard in the band’s songwriting, while the structure of the songs let you submerge in them as soon as you press play.

See it for yourself with the lyric video premiere for the first track off Tremendum. Watch “Asuric Being

HATE bandleader  ATF Sinner on the story behind “Asuric Being”:
“The lyric for “Asuric Being” is inspired by Rudolf Steiner’s philosophical concept of Asuras -„Spirit of Darkness” or spirit of Self-hood (egoism). It has a lot of archaic references and a history that long pre-dates Christianity. A truly great concept that has become a big source of inspiration to me. As for the music, you may notice how much we have refined the formula since „Crusade”. „Tremendum” is a profound, organic and adventurous album. We are really proud of it!”

AZARATH stream second new song from upcoming album “In Extremis”

AZARATH stream second new song from upcoming album “In Extremis”

Poland’s death/black metal masters AZARATH have revealed a second new song in anticipation of their upcoming album “In Extremis”, due out April 7th via Agonia Records. Listen to the track “Annihilation (Smite All the Illusions) at this link:

Earlier the band premiered the song  “At The Gates Of Understanding” in the form of a lyric video, accessible here: https://youtu.be/PkOqzLUXPAU

Touted as a “demonic mutation of Krisiun and Behemoth with shades of Immolation”, AZARATH stand up to their wicked name. The band’s death metal is crisp, black, and while it possesses the charm of their American counterparts, it remains open-minded and organic. This should not come as a surprise, considering the AZARATH‘s impressive line-up and cemented position as one the the best Polish acts of the genre. The band was formed in 1998 by drummer Inferno (of  Behemoth fame). He’s accompanied by Bart (Armagedon, Damnation) on guitars, Necrosodom (Anima Damnata, Deus Mortem, ex-Infernal War) on vocals and guitars, as well as Peter (ex-Lost Soul) on bass.

Meaning “at the point of death” or “under extreme circumstances” in Latin, “In Extremis” is yet another apex reached by AZARATH. Offering a vehement ride through the netherworlds, the effort places the band back at the fore of the genre, with strong ties to the group’s early cult albums. The eerie painting that adorns the album’s cover was made by Marta Promińska (Hypnagogic Painting).
