NINJASPY Announce New Video ‘Speak” + Canada Tour

unnamed (5).jpg
Vocalist / guitarist Joel Parent comments:

“Spüken is the musical equivalent of a magician removing his own entrails. The guts just keep coming, like handkerchiefs from a sleeve, and its painful, colourful and cathartic all at once, in the same way that vomiting after hours of nausea is such a relief. The musical ideas that came together in this project span many years and come from many influences. Hearing them all together is a trip. There were a lot of hard times in the years while this record was being written and most, if not all of these songs are tied together by the search for something greater than oneself. Empowerment by going through ones pain, all this is woven into an album that is another spastic stylistic roller coaster not unlike our previous albums, but with smoother blending. From song to song there is a lot of variance, but within songs we have managed to take contrasting genres and combine them in more nuanced ways, with less hard cuts. This album is colourful, and the palette is dark.”

‘Spüken’ will be available as of April 14th on the band’s online storeiTunesCD Baby and Bandcamp.

1. Speak (4:43)
2. Shuriken Dance (4:02)
3. Brother Man (4:54)
4. Dead Duck Dock (4:45)
5. Become Nothing (3:18)
6. What! (3:08)
7. Jump Ya Bones! (3:55)
8. Grip The Cage (4:10)
9. Azaria (4:02)
10. Slave Vehemence (5:44)
Album Length: 42:44

In addition to releasing ‘Spüken’, NINJASPY will be taking their explosive and powerfully unhinged live show on the road for their sixth tour across Canada, which also marks their first cross country tour in six years since promoting their debut album in 2011.

ChuggaBoom Trolls Metalcore Elitists In “White Moms Can’t Chugg” Music Video

(Birmingham, United Kingdom – April 12, 2017) – Comedic metalcore outfit, ChuggaBoom is back and trolling the internet trolls with a new single titled, “White Mom’s Can’t Chugg”. The single inspired by Reddit users, comes from their upcoming EP, “Kevin” and is set to release May 12th.

“This song is the Chuggalo Anthem. Anyone who has ever listened to heavy music has been told that its just a phase and to listen to “real music”, but we are here to tell them to fuck off and join the Chugg Life. Its a pledge to both our fans and ourselves that we are never going to sell out and that we will always stay true to what we are – The Greatest Metalcore Band on Earth. The Chuggalos believe in what we stand for, so we need to stay true to that and make sure we are standing in solidarity with them. We’re never selling out, no matter what our parents say!”

Coming onto the UK metal scene two years ago with their debut album “Zodiac Arrest”, the band has quickly made a name for themselves with their satire storyline and obvious chugging riffs.

“After the success of the “Mad Skills Brah!” single, we did what any sensible band would do, and invested the Spotify revenue into a high interest current account and used the money to pay for the materials needed to develop our skills outside of the band,” says bassist Avira Caprica.

Kevin” comes out May 12th and is available to pre-order now. Watch “White Moms Can’t Chugg” below.

REVIEW: Tethra – Like Crows For The Earth

REVIEW: Tethra – Like Crows For The Earth                                                                            by Carina Lawrence / Dark Art Conspiracy

tethraband.jpg

Italian doom metal act Tethra formed in 2008 and released their first full length debut ‘Drown Into The Sea’ in 2013, which was a concept album focused on water and continued the theme started on their first EP ‘At The Gates Of Doom’, about a passage between life and death. Now in 2017 they are back with their sophomore full length ‘Like Crows For The Earth’, which was recorded and mixed by Matt Stancioiu (Labyrinth) and mastered by Greg Chandles (Esoteric). They are ready to take their sound to the next level and show how they have evolved since their debut…

The intro ‘Resilience’ is positive yet sorrowful and sets the scene wonderfully for what is to come, being very melodic and tempting, leaving you eager to hear more. It paves the way for first full track, ‘Transcending Thanatos’ which picks up where it left off before frontman, Clode Tethra demonstrates his versatile vocals, from dark growls to melodic charismatic clean vocals, which is quite alluring and stands out in the doom genre, with an gothic vibe shining through. The instrumentation accompanies the tones brilliantly, from dark gloomy moments to hopeful acoustic sections.

Instrumental ‘Prelude to Sadness’ helps create the desired atmosphere and offers a break in between songs and sees us arrive at, ‘Springtime Melancholy’ which is extremely ambient and rather beautiful, with Clode using his vocals well against the vibrant instruments. There is a great balance of dark and light, which is intelligently structured and makes a high impact, going from serene to head banging worthy moments, as well as a full blown doom rage thrown in to keep you on your toes. This is a stand out track, and a great unconventional soundtrack or anthem for Spring.

‘Deserted’ introduces a more exotic sound initially, which goes into dark sounding sonic riffs which drive it, and offer plenty of hard hitting rhythms throughout. This may well be one of the heaviest songs featured so far, as it contains more screamed growls, alongside the signature gothic doom vocals. The stripped back interlude ‘Subterranean’ is well placed and is easily Clode’s best vocal performance, with elegant acoustic guitar as backup, giving it a sinister but flourishing sound. ‘The Groundfeeder’ focuses on the heavier side, tying in with ‘Deserted’ and keeps the momentum going…

‘Synchronicity of Life and Decay’ sees some of the most ambient instrumentation, including a slick tuneful guitar solo,  in what is their shortest song, showing they can deliver a quick hard blow. While ‘Earthless’ soars on, with the band in their element with fast paced melodies, going between slower calm parts and then effortlessly going full swing again. This is another stand out track for me.

Saving their title track for last, ‘Like Crows For The Earth’ truly encompasses all their best characteristic sounds, being a perfect and solid representation of their album and sound, making it a fine choice to end on.

Considering this is rooted in doom and death, this is a joy to listen to, as it is surprisingly diverse, melodic and positive for this genre. ‘Like Crows For The Earth’ highlights that Tethra aren’t afraid to think outside of the box, and for their efforts they should be more widely accepted, as this is more accessible than most doom/death metal offerings, giving it the edge. Most of the songs are around six or seven minutes long, but all very well crafted and consistent throughout, progressing naturally along the way. The use of instrumentals interspersed shows their musicianship further, and aids their more sonic and consuming sound, which is layered nicely to balance it out, and gives them their unique sound. If you are a fan of gothic doom/death metal this is a must, but even if you aren’t you may be in for a nice unexpected treat!

Score: 4/5

DEMONICAL announce new vocalist; reveal spring & summer dates

Sweden’s death metal squadron DEMONICAL has announced significant changes in its line-up, most prominently including the parting of ways with long-time singer and producer, Sverker Widgren. His boots will be filled by none other than Alexander Högbom, who already proven himself behind the microphone in the ranks of October Tide and Centinex.

unnamed (13).jpg

DEMONICAL commented:

“We have parted with vocalist Sverker Widgren due to various time- and priority related matters. As there are always two sides to every story and answers might differ depending on who you ask, we prefer to keep the more detailed reasons amongst the ones involved and not publically go into further explanations. However, in order to avoid any speculations we can inform you that there is no bad blood between any of us, we want to thank Sverker for all the years in the band and we wish him the very best of luck for the future.

As the band has always operated under the motto “only the best is good enough”, we are thrilled to announce that one of Sweden’s premium death metal vocalists, Alexander Högbom (known from acts such as October Tide and Centinex) has joined us as our new permanent commander.

In order to raise the flames even higher, we can hereby also reveal that after more than two years in Demonical on a session basis, guitarist Eki Kumpulainen and drummer Kennet Englund have both become full-time members of the band.

With this determined and solid line-up we are very much looking forward to the upcoming Finnish shows next week, the summer tour across Eastern Europe during July as well as the album recording in the autumn.

Yes that’s right, during the fall we will (finally) record our fifth full-length album for an early 2018 release. We have tapped an award-winning Swedish producer for the task and we are confident that the album – which summons bits and pieces from all our previous releases – will become an improved quality-related chapter for Demonical and push our Swedish Death Metal Darkness to a new level.

The future looks more than victorious!”.

Alexander Högbom added:

“It is with excitement and great honor I will shoulder Sverker Widgren’s position in Demonical. I have known the band for almost 10 years now and we have toured together all over the globe with my other bands both as support and vice versa. This is one more step for me into the chasm of Swedish Death Metal Darkness”.

unnamed (14).jpg

DEMONICAL will continue to spread their live-madness with a combined festival & club summer-tour in July focusing on the eastern territories. Finnish black metal tyrants Author will join in as support, together with Stockholm death/black squad Angrepp as guests on selected dates.

The first show of the tour will be an exclusive German club-show with Brazilian death giants Krisiun as headliners.
