LENG TCH’E comment on “Cirrhosis”: “This one’s a stomper, a grinder, a banger, a kicker, and a thrasher. It’s a perfect sample of all that we’ve tried to incorporate on ‘Razorgrind’: pure energy from start to finish!”

ANNOUNCE SPECIAL PORTUGUESE SHOWS & NEW ALBUM:
‘1755’ OUT ON NOVEMBER 3rd!

NAPALM RECORDS, MOONSPELL and Alma Mater Records (band’s owned label) are proud to announce that there will be three shows in Portugal for the release of MOONSPELL’s new album ‘1755‘: a concept album, sung in Portuguese, about the Great Lisbon Earthquake, of 1755.
They will have a double date hometown- show in Lisbon where you enjoy the band’s annual Halloween party as well as watching the show. On the 1st of November MOONSPELL will take the event to the city of Porto, as part of the ‘1755‘ first three announced dates:

1st Nov – HARD CLUB, SALA 1, PORTO

These very special gigs will be produced by the band themselves in partnership with Alma Mater Records and in collaboration and with total support from their main label Napalm Records.
At the shows you will have the chance to buy the upcoming record exclusively and straight from the band and watch them destroy Lisbon and Porto. The ticket holder will get a free CD or vinyl edition (first 500 tickets, the edition will be signed by the band!). Says the band:

On these shows we’re gonna play 1755 in its entirety but also recover some obscure stuff we haven’t been playing for many years.

1755 is a poetic, musical and philosophical reflection of the band about the tragic event that took place on the 1st of November of 1755 in Lisbon, decimating the entire city.

It’s mostly a Metal record, with vibrant riffs, epic orchestration and vocals and lyrics which invoke the agony of that day. The band was also concerned in recreating the end of the 18th century Lisbon and there will be lots of fusion, percussion and a melodic approach to that time and to the atmosphere the great city of Lisbon enjoyed back then.

There will be ten powerful, surprising songs that echo remotely to some of Moonspell previous efforts like Under the Moonspell or alpha Noir. But make no mistake! This is MOONSPELL as you never heard them before, with the fire of their native Language Portuguese and 900 years of History to unveil!

An historical, rigorous, serious, artistic record. A black beast from Portugal that the Metal scene so craves for.“

Bloodstock Festival announces Gravil, watch the new video Detonate

Bloodstock Festival announces GraViL + watch ‘Detonate’ new music video

“Pure metal delivered with maximum vitriol. This band rules harder than Josef Stalin.” – Dom Lawson

Watch the new music video ‘Detonate’

The latest announcement by Bloodstock Open Air sees the London melodeath group Gravil confirmed for the prestigious Sophie Lancaster stage on Sunday 14th August. This new addition to the bill once again demonstrates Bloodstock’s commitment to championing new bands in the metal community.

“We are honoured to be a part of Bloodstock Open Air 2017” says Gravil vocalist Grant Stacey. “Each year this spiritual home of heavy metal somehow betters the year before. We have each spent a lot of time on the hallowed ground of Catton Park, witnessing stunning new bands, the earth shattering veterans of the main stage and embracing the metal music community that we have come to call our family.  Now we are privileged to grace the Sophie stage, whose very name represents the strength and pride of our brotherhood. See you there!”

2017 has seen a resurgence for GraViL. Their sophomore album ‘No More Forgiveness’ was released in May and has being going down a storm with media and the band’s fanbase. With various premieres by the likes of Metal Hammer, Scuzz TV, Terrorizer and more, GraViL have now unleashed the music video for elite track ‘Detonate’.
This new video clip shows the group in a high-octane performance which also features three versions of the mysterious woman, ‘Obliti’… the present broken self, a lost dream of grandeur and the self-loathing dark entity which destroyed it.
“‘Detonate’ is a personal song drawn from a negative situation”, explains Stacey, “The video captures the lyrics perfectly… it tackles loss, taking charge and using the anger, rage and sadness to triumph over the overwhelming paint that the loss entails… hence detonating.”
Whilst the song and video reflect important issues in our society, it didn’t stop the band from taking time out to have fun on set and inflict ‘crabcore’ on non-believers.
“On the way to the video shoot we discussed how low our guitarists get to the floor during live shows. Sparx (bass) mentioned it was called crabcore and a confused Charlie (Webster, guitar) refused point blank to believe there was such a thing. Like a red rag to a bull this spurred us onto mischief, leading to the band shouting “crab it” during the performance sections and band members having to get as low as physically possible to the floor without taking the soles of their feet off the ground.”
Gravil’s new album ‘No More Forgiveness’ is out now.
Gravil live:
23rd June – Coventry, Arches (w/ Metaprism)
8th July – Burnley, Sanctuary Rock Bar (w/ Metaprism, Today, They Are Older)
14th Aug – Bloodstock Open Air (Sophie Lancaster Stage)
More dates to be announced.

All-Female Four Piece Band EXIT EDEN Announces Debut Album “Rhapsodies in Black”!

photocredit: Christian Barz
Four musicians from four different countries with four entirely different biographies, yet all stemming from the world of Rock, now united in one band: EXIT EDEN!

The all-female four piece ensemble unites all attributes ascribed to the new millennium: cosmopolitan, self-confident-independent and ready to do their very own thing! Despite their diversity, the four singers Amanda Somerville, Clémentine Delauney, Marina La Torraca and Anna Brunner blend together personally as superbly as they do vocally with their very diverse vocal tones and techniques that go from opera style to raspy rock! This constellation created extraordinary and powerful ideas and finally became their unique plan to raise EXIT EDEN’s very own edge: to show the world that almost every classic song can be transformed into a solid metal-rock song.

EXIT EDEN’s debut “Rhapsodies in Black”, which will be released on August 4 via Napalm Records (worldwide excluding Germany/Switzerland/Austria via Starwatch), is home to a colourful mix of international super hits from Rihanna to Madonna, from Depeche Mode to Adele, and many more! Still and all, it’s miles away from being just a cover album. A first video will present a grand entrance very soon! Stay tuned for more updates on EXIT EDEN!

Who the musicians are:

Amanda Somerville:
Amanda is a rock-solid authority of the music scene: both as a solo artist and sharing success and the stage with bands like AVANTASIA, EPICA and KAMELOT. Though her US-American roots are based in Pop & Rock, she fell in love with the Metal scene and made it her home. She has toured with Alice Cooper, Ian Gillan and many more legends with her commanding voice and fronts the projects TRILLIUM and Kiske Somerville (with HELLOWEEN icon Michael Kiske). All of this, combined with her wide range of experience, grants her a unique edge and a permanent address in the Metal world.

Anna Brunner:
A natural talent, Anna began singing at a very young age. As a daughter of a German father and an American mother, she grew up bilingual and founded her first Rock band as a teenager. Due to a music study that lead her through different parts of the world, she garnered a multitude of experience and it became crystal clear to her: music has to rock – and vocals need to be emotional – just like a passionate scream.

Marina La Torraca:
Hailing from Brazil, Marina was born with rhythm in her blood. As the auspicious frontwoman of several Metal bands since the age of 15, her path led her to Europe, where she got to perform with AVANTASIA and to found her up-and-coming band, PHANTOM ELITE. Since having studied musical theater in New York, the versatile singer and actress can also be seen internationally in musical productions, including the upcoming German tour of the Broadway-Hit, RENT. For her, being close to the crowd is what counts – no problem for her and her natural convincing character.

Clémentine Delauney:
Clémentine was born near Paris 30 years ago. She has been a multi talent since her childhood days – no matter if she was dancing, playing the piano or singing – she enchanted her audience. At the age of 16, she joined her first Metal band, she is currently fronting Symphonic Metal outfit VISIONS OF ATLANTIS and also worked with SERENITY and MELTED SPACE. Another one of her career highlights is her participation on Kai Hansen’s (HELLOWEEN, GAMMA RAY) first solo album, released in 2016. Thus, Clémentine has carved her way into being one of the great performers of the scene.

LIVE REVIEW: Turku Saatanalle V continued… 3 months later: BATUSHKA, KORGONTHURUS & WORMWOOD

Turku Saatanalle continued… 3 months later.

By: Serena Solomon / Dark Art Conspiracy

The most anticipated band of Turku Saatanalle V, Batushka, finally made it to Turku along with the homegrown black metalers Korgonthurus who also didn’t make it to their TSV appearance. The double make-up gig also included a much anticipated bonus – hailing from Sweden, melodic black metalers; Wormwood.

At Ravintola Kåren, the venue hosting the gig, it is more typical to find events that involve cloth covered tables and fancy food being held there. Needless to say, when the venue was announced for this gig, I was quite intrigued. The last gig I attended there (or was even remotely interested in attending) was a cover band night hosted by Åbo Akademi’s rock club three years ago. Not only is it rare to see a gig such as this hosted there, the more frequented venues in Turku have a completely different setting and ambiance. Experiencing this kind of gig at Kåren was refreshing in a way, but in other ways, felt off… such as watching Korgonthorus in all their corpsepainted rustednail-covered bracer glory– then looking to the left and seeing a renaissance style mural taking up the entire wall, complete with crystal chandeliers.

1

Despite having to get used to this new atmosphere, the bands played, the people watched headbanged, moshed, and even meditated?

Korgonthurus

Upon entering the venue, the curtains were closed (scoff) and doused in red lighting as atmospheric music played in the background (nothing I could recognize).

The curtains were pulled back and the band was in position… which was a bit comical and theatrical, completely out of place in comparison to the simple “walk on” typical for this type of gig. They had a bit of sound difficulty but their performance and the acoustics of the place distracted and the crowd soon relaxed and got into the music.

Their sound was solid for their genre but compared to the other bands playing that night, to me, they were like a base coat for a more intricate design- a solid band to set the mood for something more anticipated and unique.

Wormwood
The crowd was noticeably more attentive when the curtains opened for Wormwood. The band also, in my opinion, started with one of their strongest songs (
The Universe is Dying) and the crowd was hooked.(4 left)
They, too,had some sound problems but powered through and it didn’t hinder their show a bit. Their presence and sound had that something unique I had been waiting for during Korgonthurus. And similar to the headliners, only having one album, in my opinion played the best songs off the album.

Their energy on stage was infectious and I think my memory of the gig is partially foggy due to my own energy catching up and running around to try to capture it all and enjoy at the same time. My only complaint is that they didn’t play longer! Also to the asshole who kept putting his arm around my waist, fuck you.

Batushka

Initially it was hard to discern when the atmospheric music being played between bands ended, and Batushka’s intro began. But then, the stage hands came to light the candles-enter the frankincense I was hoping for.

That sensory element only certain bands can pull off and an added component that can almost be noticeable if missing. As the candles continued to be lit, one solitary undistorted guitar played the intro to their music to set the mood. Though it is known a large portion of Batushka’s show and stage presence revolves around ritual and symbolism, I couldn’t help but remember someone complaining at Turku Saatanalle, that these days there is more ritual activity happening on stages at such events than actual instrument playing. The person had a point, but I also think many fans of such music appreciate the variety in stage presence and activity on stage embracing and supporting the bands imagery and lyrical themes.

7.jpg

It also surprised me that some unexpected things happened as well as a few things being left out from what I was expecting after watching some of their live videos online (to get a feel of what was coming). I didn’t think their activities on stage could vary that much but it was, in a way, a good thing that it was a bit unpredictable (for someone who had never seen them before).

Though their faces were covered, the main vocalist successfully portrayed some emotion and somehow translated facial expressions through hand gestures and body language. 8.jpgI could visualize, for example, when he had his hands out towards the crowd a certain way, what kind of facial expression might go with such gesture, which gave a bit more of an idea of at least the mood behind the lyrics (since I could not understand them). The setup of the stage was also interesting to me. Of course, the vocalist/frontman is up front and, to go along with their ritual/mock-religious ceremony theme, was set up behind a podium/alter. The backup vocals had their place somewhat behind and to the side… but three of the four musicians were far far behind, in the shadows, as if they should be heard and not seen. 9.jpg One of them I couldn’t even manage to get a photo of and it wasn’t the drummer. I’m curious about the significance of that.

It was also incredibly interesting to observe the crowd’s reaction and response to their music and show. At some points, the vocalist directed the crowd to “shh”… and they did. 10.jpgOther times, I looked around and saw people with their arms extended and palms out as if truly at some religious ceremony. Others seemed as if they were meditating… eyes closed or open. Feeling and interpreting the music in ways I have never seen at such gigs, as if it was more of a ceremony to them than a metal gig.
