he metal folk celebrated Midsummer in great atmosphere at Nummirock. The festival, which ends with Behemoth’s concert tonight, gathered a total of more than 18,000 visitors to Nummijärvi in Kauhajoki, about a couple of thousand more than the previous year. The event has been celebrated in a joyfully boisterous atmosphere, there have been no serious disturbances, and the spirit of Nummirock has been present both in the event area and in the legendary camp, where the first midsummer celebrants settled down as usual to feel the atmosphere more than a week before the actual Nummirock began.
“We have to give thanks to the calm and great audience, who made this festival an unforgettable experience once again. Without the wonderful audience and the entire Nummirock background team, this festival wouldn’t exist,” says Nummirock promoter Tero Viertola.
The final of the Wacken Metal Battle was also held on the spot, which was won by the death metal band Omnivortex from Helsinki. The band will go on a gig at a giant German festival later this summer.
“The feeling is incredible, and I would not have thought that something like this would ever happen. We will leave for Germany suitably excited, and we will go full throttle, as always”, Omnivortex’s singer-guitarist Severi Saarioja promises.
Planning for next year’s Nummirock has already started, and Tero Viertola already has some ideas for 2024. Nummirock has traditionally seen exclusive concerts of the Finnish festival summer, and as usual, the intention is to pull out something never seen before.
“This year’s successful event and the slightly renewed functional area will continue to develop next year, and yes, we have already made reservations for next year,” says Viertola cryptically.
Nummirock will take place next year on June 20-23, 2024.

Nummirock is an age-restricted event with a recommended age of 16.
