Greek occult black metallers with ritual & 70’s rock influences, ACHERONTAS, have signed a new record deal with Agonia Records. The band returned to the label after their 2011 departure, having previously released the EP “Hermeticism” and studio album “Vamachara” (both in 2011). The latter is going to be re-released on vinyl on August 31st, along with a rare demo and new cover made by Viktoria Polikarpova (of Visionis Phosphorescent).
ACHERONTAS is currently working on its next studio album, that is supposed by be finished in February of 2018.
ACHERONTAS is no mundane project and as little is known about the band’s biography as the phrase “shrouded in mystery” would suggest. The band was launched in 2007 by Acherontas V.Priest (guitars & vocals) and stands at the forefront of the new wave of Greek black / occult metal scene, with strong dedication to spirituality, mysticism and magic, in both sound and image. A direct continuation to the pre-ACHERONTAS era. To date, the group released six full-length albums, with “Amarta अमर्त” from this year being the last of them.
The band commented: “During the creation of the second part of Reptilian Unification the synaxis of Acherontas also compiled the bases and foundations for the third one. Now we work on the final touches to accomplish the utmost forms and complete the trilogy gloriously. In December we enter the studio again to record the final part, which will be revealed on the solstice of 2018. A circle of creation closes and a new epoch begins. Spirit Above Matter!”.
On the meaning of ACHERONTAS, the band added (original spelling): “Acherontas is a Magickal Coven Dedicated to the Ancient Summerian Mysteries of Drakonian Blood. Many Traditions embraced these Ancient sources as footprints and take form in our Void as Astral Vampirism, Hermeticism, Kabbalah, Dream Workings and Luciferian Magick. True Sorcery is not an Art, it’s science…We are Real to Those with Eyes to see… “.

“Vamachara” (new cover above) will be re-released along with the 1997 demo “Worship: Through The Dark Age We Are Dreaming”, that was recorded ten years before ACHERONTAS officially came to be.

AURI begun its life with three people, united through their shared need to hear a kind of a music which can’t be described by words alone. A magical kind of sound to be heard whilst falling down Alice’s rabbit hole.
The first song born of this mindset, ‘Aphrodite Rising’, appeared in 2011. And slowly the earth has cracked open again and ten more tracks have emerged out of the soil’s dust.
Thus the trio was formed. The Finnish singer Johanna Kurkela lent her unique voice, while Troy Donockley and Tuomas Holopainen [both NIGHTWISH] cast their spells with various other instruments. Using selected guest musicians and friends, the album finally takes its ultimate form under the direction of sound engineer Tim Oliver, all within the pastoral splendor of ‘Real World’ studios in Southern England.
AURI put the ‘drink me potion’ to its lips, grew to full size, and is now ready to slay the Jabberwocky. Hand in hand with Nuclear Blast, they lead their listeners into the shadows behind the mirror, and in spring 2018 their debut album will evoke ghosts of an ethereal sphere.
AURI consists of:
Johanna Kurkela: Voices & viola
Tuomas Holopainen: Keys & backing voices
Troy Donockley: Acoustic and electric guitars, bouzouki, uilleann pipes, low whistles, aerophone, bodhran, keys, voices
UNFD are excited to announce the signing of Perth metal band Cursed Earth worldwide. One of the fastest rising bands in Australian heavy music, Cursed Earth have been pummelling ears all over Australia since 2013 and their introduction to the rest of the world comes via the Cycles of Grief Volume 1: Growth EP, set for release on August 4.
From violence comes more violence, from tragedy comes rage. Then, inevitably, the cycle continues.
Cycles of Grief Volume 1: Growth is an unflinching and graphic depiction of trauma that breaches the boundaries of generation, country, class or circumstance. The EP covers themes of isolation and brutality from the point of view of characters caught up in and torn apart by their environment and the actions of those responsible for shaping their lives.
“The story of Cycles of Grief documents the collision of nature and nurture” says guitarist Kieran Molloy. “It’s an unprejudiced look into the intergenerational nature of coldness, addiction and violence.”
Cursed Earth, comprising vocalist Jazmine Luders, guitarists Kieran Molloy and Paul Cottrell, bassist Robert Owens and drummer Sam Forward, formed in Perth in 2013. Through EP Vae Mortis and a split with Burning Season (collected on Enslaved By The Insignificant, released worldwide by Death’s Grip / Holy Roar) they established themselves as unflinching documenters of the darkest corners of human nature.
Cycles of Grief Volume 1: Growth is available for preorder on 24Hundred and iTunes. Cursed Earth will hit the road in Australia with Thy Art is Murder this July. UK tour dates will be announced soon.

1. War March
2. Broken
3. Discarded

REVIEW: CORPSIA – GENOCIDES IN THE NAME OF GOD by Carina Lawrence / Dark Art Conspiracy

Brazilian thrash trio Corpsia have unleashed their debut album ‘Genocides In The Name Of God’. Following this release they are bringing their fierce sounds to Europe in September to unveil their new songs in the live setting, so 2017 looks to be a big and busy year for them.
The first single and opening track ‘Purgatory Scum’ begins with a dark and eerie acoustic guitar intro which builds in suspense before it all kicks off with pounding drums and fast furious riffs. This is a strong and powerful start to the debut with killer guitar work.
The title track is brilliantly belligerent and charges on throughout with great heavy rhythms and effective drums to accompany that are perfect for headbanging along too. This is simply crushing.
‘Holochrist’ again revisits the sinister vibes of the opener with creepy guitar work before going into full thrash mode, with hard-hitting riffs and strong consistent instrumentation, as seen throughout the album. The stand out ‘Snakes’ features resonant riffs and great tones. It has all the key elements of a top metal track and contains some of the best and memorable guitar work.
Closing song ‘Returns’ is a hefty slab of finely crafted thrash and may be one of their strongest offerings yet, making a powerful end to this debut.
This is a coherent and consistent debut album which has a lot of aggression and force behind it, which should appeal to both old school thrash and modern thrash fans as it embraces both. Corpsia should be proud of this full-length as it’s a strong release and it will be exciting to see what they produce next and how they expand.
