With Mammothfest less than 3 weeks away now, we take a look at just a few of many reasons why you should be checking out this annual Brighton UK based festival, which keeps growing every year. This year it takes place from the 6-8th October at The Arch, Brighton located along the seafront, making it a great venue to host this mental extreme metal weekend.
All UK exclusive headliners!
The festival has impressively managed to secure all three headliners as UK exclusives which is very exciting, especially when the headliners consist of controversial Greek extreme band Rotting Christ (Friday), Italian Avant-garde Fleshgod Apocalypse (Saturday) and Belgian metallers Amenra (Sunday). They can all only be witnessed at Mammothfest in 2017, so that is one hell of a reason to come along!

Tsjuder UK exclusive!
True Norwegian Black metallers Tsjuder also decided to only grace Mammothfest for their only UK set of the year also, adding to the already brilliant list of exclusives and making it extra special for everyone attending. You can catch them on the opening Black metal day on the 6th October as second headliners to the mighty Rotting Christ.
The Rise Of The Infernal Sea!
After their killer set at Bloodstock this year, you don’t want to miss them doing the same down south at Mammothfest with their crushing black metal. They are high up on the black metal bill on the main stage quite rightly, playing before the colossal Tsjuder. The whole of the Black metal stage on Friday is insane and shows Black Metal at its finest.
Vehement To Release New Album On Opening day!
Upcoming Black metal act Vehement are dropping their new album ‘Ashes’ via Infernum Records on the opening day of the festival on the 6th October, adding to the hype and making their set more special, as surely they will be unveiling some new offerings from their album. The album and new merchandise will of course, be available to purchase at the festival also. The band are impressing the crowds and have previously played at Bloodstock and past Mammothfest events. They are actually kicking off the first day on the main stage at 6pm!
Mysterious Dragged Into Sunlight!
Not much is known about this mysterious extreme metal band that incorporates elements of black and death metal with sludge, which only makes it a darker and more intriguing spectacle to witness them live. They perform with their faces masked and their backs to the crowd with an eerie setting; they won’t be like any other band you have seen. This is one of the many reasons they have secured the second headliner spot on Saturday, taking to the stage just before the headliners Fleshgod Apocalypse.
Black metallers Akercocke have triumphantly returned with their new sixth album ‘Renaissance in Extremis’ which is their first album in ten years, and luckily for all, it was well worth the wait, as it is going down a storm with fans and press alike. They are bound to impress and grace us with their new heavy sounds at their highly anticipated performance at Mammothfest! They are of course of the main stage on the Saturday before the two headlining acts of the extreme metal stage.
Lawnmower Deth Are Back & Working On Something!
Old school English Thrash metallers started in the 80s and quickly gained people’s attention with their comedic parody of the thrash genre. Throughout their career, they have played many big festivals including Download Festival UK, Damnation Festival, Bloodstock and more, as well as playing alongside the likes of heavyweights Bullet For My Valentine at their 2008 reunion show for example. Things have been a bit uncertain and quiet for the band at times, but they are back and working on something (hopefully a new album), so while we wait to see what they are up to, come and check them out on Saturday main stage at Mammothfest and you never know maybe they will treat us to something new!
The mighty and mental Meta-stasis!
The band formed in 2012 through the union of two bands Sikth & Ted Maul and they have been terrorising the metal scene ever since! They take to the main stage on Saturday to add to the awesome extreme metal bonanza. They are known for their extreme and intense live shows performing their unique psycho-extreme-tech-death metal, so be prepared for shit to get seriously weird and for everyone to go mental, as they perform a manic and alarming set.
Upcoming Act Bleed Again!
Modern South Coast metallers Bleed Again are local fan favourites at Mammothfest and continue to impress with their energetic blistering sets, so this year they hit the main stage on Saturday which is well deserved, they never fail to disappoint, so be prepared for a killer set. They have previously supported the likes of Soil, Darkest Hour and Devil Sold His Soul. With the release of their debut album ‘Momentum’ May this year, which was mixed and mastered by Acle Kahney of Tesseract, they have been getting the attention from the likes of Metal Hammer and more, so they are definitely a band to keep an eye on and who will surely keep growing.
A band to watch – OHHMS!
Sludge progressive act from Canterbury, UK who are signed to Holy Roar Records have quickly been rising and building a following, after releasing their highly anticipated debut album earlier this year titled ‘The Fool’ they have gone on to play festivals as Desertfest, ArcTanGent, Temples, as well as playing alongside The Skull, Conan, Rolo Tomassi and more. They are not to be missed, so make sure you catch them on the Sunday on the main stage before the two main acts of the day close up the festival.
The weirdly wonderful Vodun!
They are set to put on a mighty set with their heavy, soulful and weird sounds to stun the crowd, evoking an unmissable spirit and energy that will be spectacular. These unusual London psych rockers have been described as sounding like “Like Aretha fronting Royal Blood after imbibing ayahuasca” which says it all! You won’t what to miss this! They have earnt the second headliner slot on Sunday before headliners Amenra, so you are in for a hell of a good Sunday night!
Tech masters Core Of iO!
This year’s Mammothfest is one of the most varied line-ups and offers something for everyone and Sunday’s Rikstock stage headliners are the perfect example of this. They are known for their progressive technical melodic mastery which never fails to impress. They have recently just unleashed a new song ‘Hit The River Hard’ which is the first new offering taken from their upcoming EP Part II: Europa, which is scheduled to be released December 1st. Luckily for festival-goers, you will be treated to the entire new EP live to make their headline even more memorable. This isn’t the first time the band are appearing at Mammothfest, and it’s not hard to see why they are being invited back. They have also played in the past at UK Tech-Fest as well as extensively touring the UK.
The Mental Confronted Return To Mammothfest!
South Coast UK nutters Confronted are not to be missed, as well as witnessing some brilliant heavy sounds you will also be in for a hell of a memorable and hilarious performance. There is a reason they are called Confronted, as vocalist Ryan Hull will scream in your face, smash up drums, and climb and sing or anything he can. Seriously, they will easily be a highlight and you will always remember their set for their crazy stage antics that are like no other. After their set at the ‘Mammothfest presents’ show earlier this year with hardcore heroes Brutality Will Prevail headlining, their set was one of the most talked about and one of the best, especially as an opening act on the second stage. Get ready to be stunned, scared and amused all at once as you watch them on the Rickstock stage for emerging acts on the closing day on Sunday.
All the local and upcoming acts!
A few upcoming acts have been mentioned to check out specifically but honestly one of the best things about the festival is all the new local and upcoming acts which always impress the crowds and are given their chance to shine amongst the heavyweights, so it is a great festival that highlights the importance of supporting the local underground scene and gives you the chance to check out and discover new music.
The festival keeps growing and getting better and better each year!
It has been amazing to watch and see the festival get bigger every year and bring in big acts along with some of the finest local metal acts. The fact that this year they have got such a massive and varied line-up along with all 3 UK exclusive headliners is a testament to this. Last year saw the likes of Textures, Venom Inc. and Conan headline and past events included Entombed, Sylosis, Orange Goblin, Ingested, Martyr Defiled, Onslaught and more as well as the ‘Mammothfest presents’ shows which included headliners, Vader, Brutality Will Prevail and Feed The Rhino. So this is a festival to keep an eye on and support as they continue to expand, with the hope of them becoming an open-air festival in the future. So get down to Brighton’s only dedicated metal festival!
